A meeting with the Mayor of most of the members of the Common Council could be construed as a violation of the open meeting laws, I would imagine . . . |

Yes it is Citizen.
Removing the name refers to Hanlon's name in the audit as keeping his notary fees while conducting notary and justice of the peace business on city time. If he collected his fees on his own time, no problem. But, he collected his fees while on the clock as city clerk. In my humble opinion, he should not have charged any fees at all.
I'm sure the audit picked up on that, and now it's damage control time.

Is this going to end up being a case of cutting your nose off to spite your face? He wouldn't dare violate the open meeting law, would he? Or did her forget he accused the City Council of doing that very same thing and then Hanlon lied about talking to the District Attorney. |

If I remember correctly from last Monday nights Aldermen meeting, the mayor was meeting with the company that did the audit today. He wanted clarification on the things us dumb people wouldn't understand. Does anyone else remember this? |

I'm told the meeting was on the sale of some city property possibly the old GE site but also a few of the members let it be known how shi-ty the city services did in this storm which of course upset the powers to be seems they DID NOT bring in any outside contractors for help this time so to save money we suffer now at the next budget city services can say opps we turned back xyz amount unused funds to be spent on some other foolish thing that ONLY the mayor himself can understand i don't know about all of you but me I've had it |

massdee, you need to remember that the Mirror is full of trash and think it through a bit..........
From the standpoint of a City Services worker: SNOW = OVERTIME = BIGGER PAYCHECK. Why would they shoot themselves in the foot like that? I'm sure they can find better ways to get back at Hanlon (although I think the theory itself is bulls**t) that won't affect them (personally) quite as much. |

I know that site is mostly a bunch of crap, but I found that little post interesting only because Scoop had said there was going to be a meeting up city hall last night. I was just throwing another thought into the mix.
justme, you are so right about The Mirror, I've never read so much juvenile, name calling trash in my life. |

Hanlon's problem isn't nepotism and political patronage -- it's that he promised he wouldn't engage in nepotism and political patronage. It was a foolish thing to say -- because most people realize that "political patronage" is part of the political landscape, and what we hope for is that those receiving the patronage are also qualified to do the jobs they're hired to do. So Hanlon has two strikes against him in this area -- he broke a promise that he should never have made, and he's hired people who, the evidence would seem to show, are less than qualified to be doing the job they were hired to do.
It's going to be interesting to see how Hanlon plans to try to overcome all these strikes against him. He's heading into the bottom of the 9th inning of his first term, and he has a lot of ground to make up. I just don't think he has the team to do it. |

If his team gets motorized walkers they might have a chance, it all "Depends" if the batteries on their pace makers die or not. |
