Does anyone else think it is a little odd to schedule a semi-formal on Good Friday? What are they going to serve these kids?

I don't think they thought of it beforehand. They usually serve chicken fingers and pasta or something like that. I have three kids going to different proms or semis this year. The cost of these things concerns me more than the food, but thats just my opinion since I do not follow the tradition of not eating meat on that day.

I am so glad my kids have all graduated. These things were a financial burden then, I can only imagine how much they cost now. |

The tickets were $40.00 each. The sophomores are also receiving their confirmation a short time after the semi so they have it drilled into their heads that it is a sin to eat meat on Good Friday. Well I hope they do have the pasta there too. Just hope they don't get the sauce on their dresses... lol |

Beyond the tickets and attire (dress, shoes, handbag, jewelry) my kids are on their own! They want tans, nails done, limos, etc... they can go out and earn their own money to do so. |

My oldest will help out but she does not work many hours a week. The other two are too young for jobs. They have been doing chores in exchange for all of this money.

My three were 2 years apart and we ran into the same thing as Sally. One year my daughter went to three different proms. Back then we were able to get 2 of the three gowns at Filene's Basement when they had their gown sale for $40.00. Of course, the one she wore to her EHS prom was almost $500.00, worn once and has been on a hanger ever since. What we do for our kids. |

I cleaned out an upstairs closet today and found all of my oldest daughters dresses. I am seriously thinking of putting them on EBay or Craigslist and getting something back for them. Maybe it will help fund this years prom.

Actually Sally I would have the younger daughter wear them to her semi and up coming proms. Who would know? Change the accessories and your golden. |

They are totally different sizes. And I could not have them altered for the younger one, since she is a size bigger than her sister and her top is much larger. She would never wear her sisters dress anyways. What would people think if they saw the same dress in pictures LOL

I heard on the radio that Jordan's Furniture is collecting old prom gowns. They will clean them and donate them to kids in need such as foster children. Just a thought. |

You know Fran I have thought of doing that. To be honest I cannot bring myself to donate 2000.00 worth of dresses. I know that sounds awful but I want to make soemthing back on them.

Sally, are there any consignment stores around? You might do better that way. |

You'd be surprised what you can get on Ebay. I know people that buy up dresses that are on sale and sell them, and make quite a bit of money. It's worth a try. |

Wow..the cost of a prom gown vs. a tuxedo rental. It's definately a man's world. I'm always amazed that a woman's pair of slacks cost more to dry clean than a mans. |
