No way, Lynda. She would do a phenominal job as mayor. I have known Lorrie for a very long time and she is a great person with a heart of gold. She is someone that deserves respect..The Eagle with walker and Leo should BOW down before her mightiness. Should they apologize? YES! Will they apologize? NO! They think they are above it all. Leo shouldn't have had the letter read in the meeting, he should have given a heads up to Lorrie besides the mayor. He is just posturing before the people he supposed to represent. Has anyone else noticed the pattern yet? It started with the Rec and just grew out of proportion with all of the other incidents. Smoke and mirrors, deflect from the Mayor. Start rumors and innuendos about people and things and keep the public's eyes off the Eagle. Every week, something new by way of a scandal. I forsee ALOT of lawsuits against the city in the near future.

why do we have two branches of government? I mean the same stuff that was on the council is now on the board of alderman. It makes no sense in this city, I have to agree with today's advocate which I read last nite. ITS TIME FOR A CHANGE

Card - the "same stuff" is on both agendas because, like our state government which has 2 houses, the issues have to be voted on by both, and some require two readings in both branches. Personally, I hope they don't get rid of the bicameral government; one only has to look at the wholly owned subsidiary of FFF known as the school committee to understand why. I figure that more people mean more moving targets....and they can't "get" everybody.

I know a lot of people think our bicameral form of government is antiquated, but I too, would like it to remain. I have much the same reasoning as Court. It is a lot hard to "own" twenty-five elected official than just a handful. The School Committee has allowed FFF to get away with his form of corruption for years. Reducing the number in city government has the potential for the same thing to happen at city hall. The state and federal government still have this type of government, so it can't be that antiquated.

It is antiquated on the municipal level. Everett being the only remaining city in the country to operate in this manner is evidence enough of that. I do understand the concerns of those who feel a consolidation of power could be dangerous but the current system is far too costly, inefficient and wasteful. Eighteen yearly salaries at $5,550 a pop. Health insurance for many of these members at $12,000 per. City pension commitments for those who do as a couple of former city officials did and go out at top three years in a different position at a much higher pay rate. Common council clerk, the cost of opening city hall for duplicate meetings. It goes on and on. Way too expensive for what we get out of it. The Common Council has got to go.

How many people would you suggest be on the Board? It would have to be more than what is on the BOA now. Do the dangers of consolidating the current system out weigh the cost. I really think so. The political climate in this city is a nasty one. They work almost as a check and balance for each other. There are a lot of issues that failed due to one board or the other defeating it. Imagine what could be pushed down our throats, if it is all left up to one board, and even worse, if that board is stacked with the mayors people. I mean any mayor, not just the present one.

The City of Boston, which is obviously much larger than Everett, does just fine with one board. I believe they have nine members although I am not 100% certain on that. If Boston can do it with a mayor and 9 city councillors then Everett can manage with a mayor, six aldermen and the alderman at large. Just my opinion.

And how many does Mayor Menino "own?" On my last visit, he owned 6/9 votes. I rest my case.
