I heard somewhere the audit is 70 pages long, I think it was on one of the news broadcasts. What was posted on the city's web site certainly wasn't that long. I'm just curious what we haven't been able to read yet.

The bulk of the audit was attachments, copies of documents from various city file, I believe . . . they were on the website last night, but maybe it was too cumbersome for the server to handle?

Citizen, what a mess this city is in, from the former mayor to the present mayor to the Supt. of Schools, God only knows what else. Let us not forget this audit was only done in a few departments. One can only imagine what could be dug up if all of City Hall and the Sch. Department was audited, past and present Administrations.

The audit is still on the website. In the Adobe format, it's 72 pages. Many of those pages are attachments.

There's definitely some wrongdoing here and money was misspent. However, I don't see it being 5 million. I'm inclined to think that figure is the total amount spent, much (possibly most) of it legitimate. Seems like they're taking a $1600 bid that ultimately was billed as $3600 and using the full $3600 instead of the difference of $2000. When you look at the legitimate cost involved in some of the large projects, the total numbers can add to 5 million, the over-payments alone won't get you there.

Once again, the administration is putting his spin on things trying to make himself look good. Sorry John, it won't work. You're not coming back next year!

I am with you. It just doesn't add up no matter how you look at it.

There better be enough proof in that audit to justify the firings and suspensions of those City Employees, or I can see some major law suits coming our way. You would have thought, at the very least, these employees would have been given the opportunity to defend themselves. Isn't this still America, innocent until proven guilty? If it is found these employees have done wrong doings, then without a doubt they should be terminated.

I totally agree with you massdee.
Now from what I understand they can attend the meeting on Monday night with the Auditors BUT are NOT allowed to speak a word. How hard is that going to be? Could you imagine sitting there letting people talk about you and not be able to set the record straight if need be?

Is that meeting also scheduled for 6:00PM? If I can free up the time I would like to attend. Can the Officials running the joint convention open up the meeting so the public can speak or do they have to stay strictly within the agenda of that meeting? Now, wouldn't that be interesting if the public was aloud to speak.

Your right massdee. I was reminded today that two of the people suspended are union employees. I think these suspensions and terminations may turn into a bigger problem than the misrepresented 5 million that was "uncovered".

Is the meeting Monday another joint convention open to everyone?

Yes, it is another Joint Convention, anyone can attend. Actually, I think everyone who can should attend. I am trying to work my schedule around it.

Is there really 5 million missing? Or is this smoke and mirrors? Ragu was Mayor for 8 years what was his budget for those 8 years @ 80 mil a year that would be over 600 million dollars. 5 Million Ddollars is not even 1% of that. So yes they kept bad receipts but the roads were plowed and City Services were working the number of employees were not increasing to or the old guys were not coming back to help swell the retirement burden. Don't forget about the 5 mil that was in the free cash fund when Walking Eagle took over. Ragucci wanted to put 2 mil into the tax levy but Bob Van Campen spoke up at the Alderman's meeting when Ragu wanted to do that and said wait for the new Mayor to do it. Well I don't know about you but I am still waiting it hasn't happened yet. Speaking of that 5 mil that was in the free cash fund where did that go? We already know it didn't go into the tax levy, so where is it. How about the resident tax exemption we didn't get more money to the city (all the new jobs.) Not for nothing but Hanlon new where to look. What did he know when? Does anyone know where I can sign up to have the Everett School Guys come to fix my house for free?
