Items 4, 5, 19 and 27 could also spur some interesting conversation as well. Someone from the adminstration better come prepared this week and know how much money is left in free cash for a change!

If anyone is able to sit thru the school commitee meetings, they keep talking about looking for the excess Medicaid reimbursement money that Ragucci promised them. Medicaid reimburses covered special education services directly to the city instead of the school department and, for reasons I don't understand, we supposedly get more back from the Medicaid than the school department actually spends on these services. When Ragucci was attending the school commitee meetings, he made a promise to them that once any past deficits were cleared up, any excess reimbursements would be turned over to the school department.

According to FFF, this was never implemented and now the city owes the school department a cumulative amount of over $600,000! I'm suprised that this hasn't shown up on the BOA or the CC agenda yet. Unless the city has been putting this money aside (which I would doubt) free cash will take another big hit! Is Vetrano really sure that it won't run out before the end of the fiscal year?

Even if the ex-mayor promised the excess payments to FFF that does'nt mean the current mayor will honor it. Circumstances change and unless the school department has a legal right to the excess reimbursments then I don't feel the city "owes" them anything.

Even so, the new auditor better show up with a calculator. I think we're all familiar with "Freddie Math." The council and aldermen better check every figure, because you cannot trust these people (Fred and his bought and paid for school committee) on any level.

I either read it or heard it, that the Mayor will be away on vacation for Monday nights meeting. Does anyone know if that is true?

I'm not sure getting more in Medicaid reimbursements than you actually spent is legal let alone if the school department has any right to it. I'm not sure FFF ever got it in writing from Ragucci but I do remember watching the school commitee meeting where Ragucci made the promise. If this item ever gets sent to the City Council, I'm sure that we'll be seeing that piece of tape again.

By the way, speaking of mayors attending School Comittee meetings, didn't the last School Department Audit (the one done by the IG's office) recommend that the mayor become a non-voting member of the School Commitee. Why hasn't that change ever been implemented???

Found this post on the other board:

"Hanlon's out of town next week, will not be appearing at the meeting."

Don't know if it is true.

The Ward 6 meeting is also next week...I would think it would be a big mistake on his part not to appear there.

If the Mayor isn't there Monday night, I doubt any of the items we have been discussing have any chance of passing. (not that their chances will be much better with him there.)
