This morning I went out on my porch to see a group of young kids pulling weeds and cutting the grass around the trees on the sidewalks in my neighborhood. I must say I was very impressed how well they all worked together and how much nicer my street looks from them doing such a great job. It seems that the City Jobs for the young teens is paying off well. Cheers.

Sounds like an excellent program. Something constructive for them to do with their time and earn money as well. Not to mention cleaning up the city !!

I agree it can be a great program. I know one of the boys who was picking weeds today. He home life is less than perfect and it is through no fault of his own. He really needed something like this to show him the value of hard work. He barely has food on the table so this helps him a lot. I think these are the kids they should really work on finding and offering jobs to. Not the politically connected kids who do not need the job. JMHO

Yes I have seen them too around the city working. I think that it was a relief that the city didn't cut the funding to the Summer Youth Program. I remember one kid came up to me and said, wow I can't believe how difficult it is to get the money when you work. Needless to say it left me with an ear to ear grin, if anything the program can teach them some responsibility and also have them earn a couple bucks.
