Hanlon has a hard time picking honest people for important positions. Can you imagine the people he would pick for the school committee. We might as well let FFF pick them...oh I forgot he already does. |

Yeah? Evidently, Stat is still willing to do the work of the taxpayers, despite a cousin on Freddy's payroll. Give the guy credit - he is consistent. Most people get very nervous about taking on Fred when they have someone on the payroll or in the school system. |

No - and they like it like that. What an enterprising citizen should do is ask ECTV to post the agenda weekly. Otherwise, the school committee will continue to operate in the corners, away from public scrutiny. |

Congratulations and good luck to you. I had considered running for school committee when I was your age. I actually pulled papers but decided not to run. However, I remained interested in politics and worked on many campaigns. I believe I had some positive effect by my efforts. I encourage you, no matter happens in your race win, lose or draw, stay involved.
Again, good luck to you. |

Crystal, what are your views on our embattled school superintendent?
If you were elected would you blindly rubber stamp everything he does like all of his other lackeys or will you stand up and do the right thing?
One last question....do you presently have any relatives working in the Everett school system?

Thank you for introducing yourself, Crystal. I do have a few questions. You're a student at Stonehill, which is in Easton. It would be a heck of a commute to get back and forth; how do you plan to get to the meetings, which start at 7 PM?
Were you asked to run by the Superintendent?
How are you financing your campaign?
Thanks again for posting. We look forward to hearing your answers. |

French Fries: Thank you for your kind words of encouragement. It is citizens like you that give newcomers like me the courage to run for office in this city, as well as voice our opinion. Your support is appreciated.
Mr. Schoeffhausen: I actually just posted a response to a question sinmilar to this under "Nomination Papers". However, to sum up what it said, no, I am not just a lackey that is running to do whatever I am told by anybody, whether it be the Superintendent or a fellow politician. I am running to make a difference, and personally, I feel it would be hypocritical for that to be my goal and yet have myself turn out to be a puppet of government. I have many ideas and reforms that I believe would do the school system good, and I am not afraid to step up to the plate with these ideas.
Court4Fred: Stonehill College is but a 30 minute drive from Everett, MA, 40 minutes if there's traffic, which is unlikely at 6:00 P.M. I already have my class schedule and my Monday afternoons are clear in the hopes that I succeed in this race to attend the Monday School Committee Meetings. I was not asked by anybody to run, rather I decided I had enough drive and passion for this seat that it would be a waste for me not to, when I can assure you that I have plenty of ideas to really reconstruct the School System into what we aspire it to be. How I'm financing my campaign isn't an issue that I feel is as important as why I'm running.
Sincerely, Crystal Eason School Committee Ward 6 |

Well, that's nice, Crystal, but how you finance your campaign is important; at the very least, you're going to have to complete campaign finance reports in which you will be required to disclose where your money is coming from. And in a race like School Committee in Everett, it is very important to people to know where the candidates' money is coming from. I'm not trying to insult you, though it may come across that way, but you're naive if you think otherwise. People are very jaded when it comes to candidates for School Committee; the Superintendent has had control over that group for a long time, and he won't easily let go of that control.
Why you are running is great -- how you are going to achieve victory needs to be based on practicality as much as idealism.

Crystal - you seem a little defensive, and I certainly don't want you to feel that way. The questions being asked of you are really garden variety, and you're going to need to be able to respond effectively.
The commute from Easton/Brockton at 6:00 PM is disgusting. 93N and through Boston is not a piece of cake under the best of conditions, which is why I inquired. It's good to know that your Monday afternoons are clear for this semester, but there are also committee meetings and other requirements, like budget preparation. As a full-time student, how do you plan to attend those meetings?
The financing of your campaign is a legitimate inquiry, and I hope you have a plausible answer. |

Crystal,
Thank you for responding to my concerns, however, I did not see your response to my question about any relatives. I did review your posting under the subject "nomination papers" and this question was not answered there either.

This is a very important answer for you, if you wish to be taken seriously on this blog.

The financing question is also important. As was stated earlier, people are very skeptical when it comes to people running for School Committee. We have been burnt way to often. So Crystal, please answer Courts and Emile's questions. We would all like to know those answers.
