It's May 17th and the budget hasn't been presented yet. Last year it was late and Hanlon shoved it down everyones throat with threats of the city closing down if it wasn't approved by July 1st. Looks like he's going to try to pull the same stunt this year.

Shut down? Isn't that what HE did with the purchasing department already? He can blame who he would like BUT the facts are the facts! He gets a thought in his mind "city closing down" and like a child doesn't let it go.

And . . . the Board of Aldermen, at least, has shown that they're not afraid of the Mayor's threats that the city will grind to a halt if they don't do what he wants. In fact, the closing of the purchasing office shouldn't even be a blip on the radar screen. The Mayor has the authority to sign off on purchase orders, so anything under $10,000 can be signed off by him -- when he decides to get back to town. Also . . . there's a legal office that could take care of bids and contracts in the interim. So Hanlon's claims that the city has ground to a halt and that the opening of the new high school will have to be delayed is, quite frankly, a load of fertilizer.

Well, I think the BOA should hold out for the "plague of locusts," pestilence, war and famine before the BOA gives him what he wants.

My daughter told me, that they told her at the High School, about a month or so ago, that the new High School wouldn't be opening till December 08'. Well before the BOA shot down the Mayors request for transfers of monies.
Some in the Paper today made comments of some of our City Councilors not telling the truths, uh, HELLOOOO did you look at your Mayor? Their example!.

Here's some fun trivia. Who am I???

"No, Stat, you're wrong. The Superintendent didn't steal $500,000 worth of goods and services, it was more like $7,000!"

Thanks for clearing that up. Remind me not to hire that person to defend me.

PRICELESS...

Shouldn't the budget hearings already be under way or is it still early? I can remember from last year, that they had to schedule extra hearings in order to get the budget approved before the end of the fiscal year. This year, the budget will probably be under an even larger microscope than last year. I expect it to be a long arduous processes. Hope everyone has their popcorn ready.

Last year more than a few department heads waited 3 or 4 hours for their budget to be discussed only to be rescheduled @ 10:00 pm or so. I imagine this year the questioning will take at least as long but maybe they'll schedule it better.

I think the really difficult part will be not taking the frustration out on the wrong people or departments. Not all of them are poorly managed. There are department heads that work hard and pay attention to their budget. In general, those are the departments that have been lucky enough to keep the administration out!

I think you're right, massdee. The budget hearings should've started already, but my understanding is that as early as three weeks ago, the Mayor hadn't even met with department heads.

He must have been too busy making placards for his "untrue audit" presentation and finding a good hiding place for the IG's letter. Does anyone really believe his office didn't get that letter until five weeks ago? I sure the hell don't. I wonder what the date was that the Everett Retirement Board received their CC of the IG letter?

Hopefully this budget will not effect our taxes again. I can't take it if my mortgage goes up again. I would not move though cuz I love my house and the street I live on. "The grass isn't always greener on the other side."

I just want to know who "he" is in Keanu's post? In the sentence,"Be proud cuz HE knows the truth." Would that be God? Or just John Hanlon? Or is Keanu confusing the two, or perhaps three, if you include the Villian of Vine Street.
