Masterful1, Here is what is on the back page of his recent mailing.

"When John Hanlon grades himself, he does so fairly:
He's the only politician who tells you what he accomplished and what he didn't accomplish.

None of his opponents have the courage to tell you the good, the bad, and the ugly:
If you listen to them, everything they say is right and everything John Hanlon does is wrong.

The people of Everett are smarter than that. John Hanlon cares about our city and is cleaning it up. He won't use the Mayor's office as a stepping stone and won't sell out to developers and political contributors."

I would like to know, which candidate is using the mayors office as a stepping stone, and which is selling out to developers and political contributers?

Just a guess massdee, but I suspect "selling out to developers and political contributors" refers to Carlo.

What did you think of his scoring himself 9 out of 12? He obviously doesn't think we're too bright if he expects us to believe that crap!

A quote from his own mailing is, "The Everett people are smarter than that." I happen to agree with him, we are smarter than that and he certainly did not score a 9 out of his 12 points. Instead of putting out innuendos about, "selling out to developers and political contributors," why didn't he just come out and say what he was getting at.

The primary can't get here fast enough.

whatashame, I think you miss read my post. As everyone knows here, I am a McGonagle supporter, have been since day one. What I was saying, the people of Everett are smarter than believing Hanlon's bull crap.

Okay, Citizen, Court, Lynda, Sally, Emile and the rest of you, stop laughing, you all know how crazy it would make me to be accused of being a Hanlon supporter.

Obviously, whatashame hasn't been around long enough to realize how riduculous his statement is. However, it was worth a laugh!

Voters aren't being fooled
by Hanlon's "blame game"

Advocate Commentary

How dumb does the Hanlon campaign team think the people of Everett are?
Their latest ad urges the mayor’s re-election “for the sake of Everett’s financial future.”
How laughable is that!
John Hanlon talking about financial responsibility, what a joke. In his 20 months as mayor, Hanlon has been responsible for increasing the city budget by over $24-million! Think about that – an astronomical $24-million increase in spending, ABOVE AND BEYOND what the previous administration spent in its last year in office.
What did we get for this EXTRA $24-million in spending by the Hanlon administration?
Nothing but higher tax bills.
To make matters worse, Hanlon continues to blame the previous administration for the size of HIS budget and our financial crisis! Amazing, simply amazing.
This is Hanlon’s second budget and he’s still trying to blame the former mayor, instead of owning up to the fact that he – John Hanlon – is fully responsible for increasing the city budget for the second year in a row. Last fiscal year, Hanlon ballooned the budget by about $11-million and for the fiscal year that just started in July, John Hanlon’s budget increased by another $13-million!
The previous administration, Mayor Hanlon, had nothing to do with adding over 70 new positions to the city payroll. You did that! You’ve been paying off political debts with city jobs, and the taxpayers are getting stuck with paying the huge costs.
By the way, Mr. Mayor, you “12-Point Plan” for Everett in the 2005 election vowed to freeze the number of city employees. WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THAT PROMISE?
Because of the Mayor Hanlon’s “political games” and his administration’s inept record of mismanagement, the taxpayers of Everett got buried with a 26.9% increase in the local tax rate last year – THE LARGEST TAX INCREASE IN THE ENTIRE STATE OF MASSACHUSETTS!
And if you think that Hanlon has learned his lesson regarding the budget and our taxes are now going to stabilize, think again! The taxpayers of Everett are in for ANOTHER MAJOR TAX INCREASE this year because of the huge $13-million increase in JOHN HANLON’S BUDGET.
The city council did their part – they came up with over $2-million in cuts because they cared about the fiscal impact of Hanlon’s huge proposed budget on local taxpayers – but JOHN HANLON REFUSED TO ACCEPT THE CUTS! (it’s surprising that Hanlon didn’t blame ex-mayor Ragucci for the city council’s proposed budget cuts).
Mayor Hanlon used a series of questionable legal technicalities to cancel the city council’s tax-saving budget cuts because – instead of being concerned about the taxpaying public – John Hanlon was more concerned with having enough money at his disposal to keep his “hacks” on the city payroll.
The end result? Because of Mayor John Hanlon’s shenanigans, Everett taxpayers will be paying more and more!
We’re sure that John Hanlon will continue to blame the previous administration, otherwise he’d have to admit that he hasn’t got a grasp on things – he hasn’t got a clue about how to effectively manage the city – and that his administration is in a “runaway car” mode.
The voters of Everett are waiting for the day (and it’s fast approaching) when they can let the mayor know, in no uncertain terms, what they think of his supposed “leadership.”
Local voters have a way of “seeing through” all the propaganda. They see all the costly city ads that Mayor Hanlon has been pouring into his newspaper, “The Dependent.” They know that paper’s backing – he’s getting them to continue their distortion of the truth and reality in a desperate attempt to get Hanlon a second term.
The voters aren’t dumb, Mayor Hanlon. They’re mad. And that’s not a good sign for you.

Keanu, now you're the laughable one. Referring to the editor of the Independent as a "respectable writer." Resnek respects the almighty dollar just as much as Mitchell does, and he's been carrying Hanlon's water for him ever since he started getting city advertising. I agree with you that Mitchell is not worth our trust or our respect, but PLEASE don't try to pass the Independent off as a respectable, responsible editorial source.
