Dated January 19th, 2007 letter to Mr Hanlon... 12 point plan. 1. A freeze on the number of city employees – no increase in staff. This was the first point in your plan, and the first promise you broke. What happened? 2. A freeze on the hiring of outside law firms. How has this one been working out, with a part time City Solicitor who has neither the respect nor the trust of city government, let alone the capacity to adequately represent the city? 3. Settle all pending legal cases to avoid additional fees. How is this going? We hope you've settled all pending legal cases, because you've added a few to the docket since you took office. 4. Eliminate unnecessary city positions and department heads who are unqualified for their positions. So tell us, Mr. Mayor -- what positions have you eliminated? We know you brought back quite a few that had been eliminated by the previous administration. The archivist position, for instance. How's that working out? All important city documents now properly catalogued and archived? And don't get us started on "unqualified department heads." 5. An immediate freeze on all new building and zoning changes in residential areas. Hmmmm . . . wonder how the people down in the Miller Street area feel about this one? 6. Put more police officers back in uniform and back on the streets, visible to potential wrong doers. This is an interesting one. Now that you've decided to “civilianize” the overnight parking program, what has happened to the police officers who were doing the job up until now -- one could argue that having the police do that job keeps them out on the street where they can be visible to "potential wrong doers." 7. Audit city water department to identify and eliminate excessive abatements for political reasons. Tell us, how many "excessive abatements" have you found that can be tied back to political connections. 8. Create “citizen audit” to establish fair prices for all city property sold. Honestly -- we have no idea what this particular piece of rhetoric is all about. The high school is ready for the block, and there's no citizen audit committee in place. 9.Institute tighter controls over handling taxpayers’ cash at City Hall. Great 10. Tighter controls over “rainy day” and “stabilization” fund. Tell us . . . what exactly do we have in our "rainy day" and "stablization" funds? What about those "controlled" transfers from the free cash account to fund all those new hires? 11. Freeze on the use of outside contractors when City employees can do the job. There must have been an early thaw on this one. Contracts are still going out to bid, contractors are getting contracts and we have at least 40 new hires. 12. >“Clerk of the Works” to supervise contractors on jobs over $10,000 on a daily basis to avoid lawsuits later on.

I just read #10, isn't that where Hanlon wants to go to get us under the prop 2.5 limit? |

Has anyone else received Hanlon's latest direct mailing yet? A couple of quotes for discussion:
"My first action as Mayor was to authorize a fraud audit of all city transactions over the past four years. I am pleased to provide you with the report on the progress we have made since then."
This is followed by a review of the twelve point plan (? - Not what I would have thought given the opening statement!) that ends with the following:
12. A freeze on the number of city employees
Completed - No. Added 15 police & fire (fed. compliance), 11 code enforcement/parking, and 16 clerical/auditors/assessors to assist criminal investigations. Once mess is cleaned up, these temp. positions will go.
There are a few more gems in the mailing but I figured these might get some discussion started. |

Some of the so called "temp" employees are in the process of becoming union members. I wonder if the union knows they're going to be laid off?
That flyer was a joke. I especially liked:
3. Eliminate unnecessary city positions and dept. heads who are unqualified
ONGOING New task force outlining detailed review of every position at City Hall
Can you say Janice Ventrano? Jerry Sheehan? David Ravanesi? Barry Doyle? Jack Doyle? John Krusovyk?(sp) Joe Pedulla?
I'm sure there are many more, these are just the names I know........ Anybody want to add to the list? |

The last sentence on the back page of the flyer caught my attention, especially the part about "won't sell out to developers." Do you think he might be talking about Thibeault and Carlo?
Also found number 2 interesting, if I'm not mistaken, Hanlon has managed to add a few of his own law suits.
Actually, I can't believe he even as the audacity to use his 12 point plan again this election since he failed so miserably with it. |

More importantly, he graded himself successful in 9 out 12! How scary is that?
I can't help but be completely dumbfounded at how differently people see things. From where I sit, he's failed miserably yet he believes he's doing a great job........... I wonder if he's got a magic mirror at his house too? |

LOL.........but seriously, I have been told by more than one person, that sees him regularly, that they think he is losing it, mentally. I am only repeating what I was told, I don't know that first hand. |

There's an article about hanlon ticketing the city to death and driving business away. They say he's added "meter maids", which isn't true and mentions the new "meter maids" hired to walk the streets midnight to 6:00. They're digging deep to blame things on hanlon but in this case the Advocate is way off base. As you know, I'm not a hanlon supporter, but there's no need for them to write that kind of junk. |

Jim Mitchell has never been one to let the facts get in the way of a good story. |

Why make crap up when there is plenty of real stuff to write about. The three papers in this city are a joke. |

I didn't get the Eagle with walker's mailing. I did hear that it said something about not paying political friends back? If that is the case, why did he hire the GERITOL clique? Just because you get older, doesn't mean you get wiser..LOL
Methinks that the Eagle's days are about done... |
