You've all heard of the soap opera The Bold & The Beautiful. We have our very own soap opera in Everett. It's called The Brazen and The Bullheaded. It's quite a cast of leading characters -- a brazen administration that lies and cheats its way through City Hall, a bullheaded mayor who digs in his heels about his budget and has the audacity to claim in today's paper that he submitted a balanced budget; add to that the supporting cast of characters in the City Council -- will they come through for the taxpayer or cave like a house of cards?; the local (I hesitate to call them) newspapers, whose editors fancy themselves power brokers and king makers; and the down trodden taxpayer wondering how their interests are being served among all the intrigue.
Tune in daily for the ongoing drama of The Brazen and The Bullheaded.

Hopefully the Council will do their job and make the necessary cuts. The "newspaper" you speak of is great for one thing they must have someone at Cityhall on their payroll because judging from some of the articles you would think that Vetrano was the PR person for Hanlon. |

Do their job? The Poor City Council could if they had been presented with something to work with. Hanlon submitted to them a joke. Just to make you aware... Joe doesn't need any help! |

Gee Citizen, I didn't see you mention Joe McGonagle at all, or maybe in a way you did, he is part of your supporting cast. By the way, Tails, it's a 125 plus million dollar budget. Maybe it doesn't bother you they way our hard earned money is being spent, it sure in the heck bothers me. To run a city you need to know how to be fiscally responsible. When the money isn't there to do something, then it should not be done, new hires, pay raises or programs. If something drastic isn't done with this budget, our next tax rate is going to be much worse than this one. They need not only to cut to get us below the 2.5 levy, they need to also cut into the six million that is going to be pushed onto the homeowner. Some of us just can't afford this anymore. We have a lot of worried tax payers in this city. |

Tails . . . stir up the citizens??? I wish the citizens would get more stirred up? I wish that the Council chamber will be filled to capacity tonight for the budget hearing, or that every television in the city will be tuned into it. I wish that phone calls were being made on a daily basis to every single member of city government regarding this bloated, overextended, sorry excuse for a budget that this administration submitted. The Mayor has the unmitigated GALL to make the statement that he submitted a balanced budget???? If this budget were balanced, the city council wouldn't have to take any action. Instead, what this Mayor has done is submit a budget that cannot be passed legally without a proposition 2 1/2 override -- essentially saying "I'm unwilling or unable to do the tough job, to make the tough decision, to ACT LIKE A LEADER and submit a budget that's responsible, and then be willing to work with the city government to a level that doesn't put us in the position piling even more burden on the taxpayer.
The former administration did not put the city into the financial mess it's in now. That's all Hanlon. Ragucci has been out of office for 18 months now . . . is Hanlon ever going to take responsibility for his own mess?

Tails (or FOH)
I have only one question for you? How does the mayor's actions during his eighteen month tenure in office, and his bloated budget square with this 12-point plan when he was candidate Hanlon?
Oh, and one more. How green is your Koolaid? |

Thanks, massdee . . . and I hope all of my fine "scriptwriting" friends on the board will feel free to add their own episodes as well! |

I only drink the purple Gatorade..
Tails, what's up? How in God's name can you try to defend the indefensible? Why don't you have Sonic the hedgehog explain how the Eagle could break all of his 12 point plan? |

This Leo McKinnon thing is very disturbing to the Pup and I.
We can't believe he is serious.

Oh, he's quite serious, Emile. Mr. McKinnon has a very high opinion of himself, although most of us understand that he's not "ready for prime time." One has to wonder if there's any connect to his bladder cancer test? Perhaps he's looking for wider publicity and plans to use the LA position as a springboard. |
