Billy Hanlon should be ashamed of himself as should his father should be of him. That is a VERY childish thing he did putting that letter in the newspaper and I think it is time he grew up a bit, loss the "y" for starters. He better NEVER GET INTO POLITICS if he can't take the talk of others cause that is what it is all about. If the Mayor knew he raised such a pansy son he shouldn't have gone into politics either.

Head, I don't think that the Mayors son appears to be the brightest bulb on the tree BUT lets not go too far with this. |

Maybe I'm missing something . . . am I the only one who thinks it's perfectly acceptable for a son to defend his father. I don't agree with anything written in his letter, and I look at it as the rantings of a wounded family member, but . . . just because the guy isn't Shakespeare doesn't mean he doesn't have a right to defend his father. As I said . . . it would be better for him to just accept that this is politics, but -- having been around family members of politicians, it's not easy to sit back and let people hammer away at your loved ones and not speak up about it. |

I do not think it is acceptable for a son to defend his father in the local newspaper when your father is the Mayor of the City. I think it makes the son as well as the Mayor look very childish. I know it must not be easy at all to sit back and let people hammer away at your loved ones but in politics you simply have. My advice to the son is... Don't read the blogs, Don't read the Papers, etc. if it is too much to handle, don't! |

Citizen, I have no problem with a son standing up for his father. Based on the writing style, it appears he is the same person who is ranting on the Mirror all the time and I don’t see that as being helpful to his father. (or the campaign) Had he toned things down, and passed on the use of capital letters, it might have been better received.
As hard as it is, I really think family members should stay clear of these situations. As we’ve seen with Billy, he’s taking the criticism of his father’s job performance as a personal attack and it’s not. It’s NOT personal.
John Hanlon is a nice man but, as a mayor…………………he stinks!
