I think the problem is they look tacky, there not taken care of, kids throw rocks at them, and last but not least......you are in jeopardy of political backlash. Lets show it where it counts...at the polls. |

Don't give me that 1st admendment crap. There was a time, not too long ago, when candidates stood in unison in upholding the gentlemen's agreement of no yard signs. I agree, it just looks tacky from the same group of people that complain about storefronts, using flags as curtains. Lead by example. |

I am beginning to see Matewski Rep signs in all parts of the city. It is really way to early. We are going to have to endure looking at these signs for months. |

I was researching something and came across the following:

And as far as the second piece we are waiting on goes:
You must be logged in to see this link.
House, No. 4762 Presented by: Representative Stephen Stat Smith Petition of Stephen Stat Smith (with the approval of the mayor, board of aldermen and city council)relative to the nomination and election of a charter commission in the city of Everett.
05/21/08 H Referred to the committee on Municipalities and Regional Government -HJ 1488 05/27/08 S Senate concurred Public Hearing date Jun 5 am at 11:00 in Room A-1
On the first one, why so long between the second and third readings? More than six months! And we think things move slowly in the city government. |

It doesn't appear that the charter reform petition is dead but it doesn't appear that much progress has been made either. The latest status updates, from the link in the prior post, are below:
06/19/08 H Reporting date extended to Thursday, July 17, 2008 -HJ 1610 06/23/08 S Senate concurred -SJ 1918 07/23/08 H Reporting date extended to Friday, August 15, 2008 07/24/08 S Senate concurred |

Is it true if the Governor does not sign it into law by Thursday it's dead, and wont be on the ballot in 09?

I know that Stat said that it needed to get done by the end of July but the current status would seem to contradict that. If it does get killed this year, it could still be re-filed next year; but, if it doesn't move any faster then, it would seem unlikely that it would get done in time for it to be on the ballot next November. |

Any idea why this is moving so slowly through the state? |

No idea.
The last one took almost a year after it got referred out to committee. It took this one almost six months before it made to a committee. Yeah, the state has to deal with a lot of bills every year but this just doesn't make any sense. |

Wow, off subject, but I was looking at the Mass.gov site (was looking to see if I could learn more about this bill Stat Smith is trying to pass and the process)......and the states budget is $28.1 billion for FY 2009. Ouch.
Too bad the casinos didn't get passed. That would have helped a lot financially. |

I like Stat and I hope he beats Wayne in September. Wayne's got no loyalty. Smith has been more than good to him and look how sweet little Wayne repays him. I hope that Smith is finally done with him. |
