Lynda, Sally already explained the discrepancy. But since you chose to bring it up again let's go for it.

It is a violation of local and state law to be in possession of a "BB" gun without a valid FID permit. So there is a criminal complaint that could be pursued against the actual violator, unless of course, this child had a valid permit for this gun, which I seriously doubt.

That might send a message to the others who contemplate the same course of action. The City should press charges against this kid because of the lock down of the school and the mental anguish the other students, teachers, and parents had to endure before the actual circumstances were made known to the public.

The school administration is being very kind to this kid.

The person that was mistakenly named has been noted by Sally to be 20 years old. Sounds like he's an adult to me. So let's stop treating this person like a child, get passed this indiscretion on my part, and start worrying about how these kids are getting guns into the high school.

The next time it could be a real gun instead of a "BB" gun.

I am surprised that the new HS doesn't have some type of detection system in place, or do they? We live in a different world now and we need to protect our children. I also agree with Emile, law enforcement and the school department need to send a strong message with this latest incident. They need to become proactive and try to prevent an even more dangerous situation from happening.

I'm in agreement as well!

These kids need to know there are consequences associated to not following the rules. I don’t think giving them a break sends the right message.

Well even though he is in his 20's, I doubt he would like to hear he has been falsely accused of anything on this message board. Both of the kids arrested were friends of my daughter. I think they both acted like idiots! My child was huddled in a corner of the classroom with the rest of the class and the teacher because of the lockdown. She was convinced there was a gunman in the school. Thankfully, they learned quickly that the situation was under control. I do feel somewhat sorry for these two boys because of other circumstances that have lead them to these stupid decisions. These boys were once babies who could have used some actual parenting to steer them in the right direction. I have witnessed the same problems with at least one of their siblings. It is a sad situatiion all around.

By the way I never heard about a permit for a bb gun. I am not doubting you, I am just surprised to find this out. Are you sure about the permits? Because my child has BB guns and paintball guns that we use ONLY up in Maine on our vacations to shoot cans in the woods. They are in a secure place.

Emily I NEVER said that this kid shouldn't be charged for what he put the kids, school administration, police, etc... for him doing such a STUPID thing. All I said was that you should NOT mention names unless you are 100% sure of what you are saying due to the fact that anything said about anybody in this fine city is taken as truth whether it be that or not. So when you used that kid who doesn't even attend the high schools name, some will still point at him when he is walking down the street and whisper "that is the kid (guy) who had a gun in the high school!" That is what I was referring to Emily and NOTHING more.

I just re-read my post and I do not understand how any of you could have mis-took it for what it says. I never insinuated that the child with the BB gun shouldn't be charged for a crime.

Lynda, I went back a re read your post and I agree you never said he should not be charged. I think Emile was referring to you bringing up his/her mistake again. I think he/she is saying he got the point. The kids were held up at dismissal today because a kid threw a book at a teacher when he was told to stay after school. This is not a reflection on the school, it is a reflection of the times we live in and in many situations, the bad parenting these kids recieve. My kids are far from angels, but some of these kids are ruined for life.
