I'm not sure if the meetings are advertised in the paper or on ECTV. I noticed a flyer at National Night out. I believe the meetings have been going on for quite sometime now. I apologize for not having a lot of info but Tuesday night could be a good start for a lot of us who have the same concerns.

question DID THE POLICE CHIEF HEAR THE SHOTS, THIS IS FROM THE OTHER BLOG IN EVERETT:

No, the Chief of Police lives in Boxford. But East Everett citizens heard the four GUNSHOTS on FRANCIS STREET last Night. Chief pullls in 175,000 a year from Everett. Spends most of his time at police "conventions" in Atlantic City and Las Vegas. Who is the BIGGER criminal. The low lives who "do drive byes" in Everett or the "low life" CHIEF who collects 175,000 a year and DOES NOT DO HIS JOB?
he could collect the big check, say he loves the city and doesnt live in Everett. Basically Everett has turned into chelsea, I grew up in Everett and dont know half the people no more. We are the minority now.

Oh jesus Don don't say such things they will jump all over you..If you say the city has changed!
People that grew up there and moved are not allowed to speak of such things.
The regs on here freak out!
Only they are allowed to make such observations

I attended the Crime Prevention meeting this evening and it was an eye-opener to say the least. There is a lot more going on in this City than the average resident is aware of. I urge all of you who read this blog to attend the next meeting on Sept 16th at 7:00 pm. It is very easy for us all to become armchair critics.

Fill us in a bit FedUp? I would like to know what more we can do besides keeping our eyes and ears open and notifying the police of suspicious activity.

Did they mention the stealing of the signs? I cant believe times are so bad that people are actually stealing signs and sign poles. That's great that the Everett police went to the Everett junkyards and informed them, but I would believe people would go outside the city to sell these.

I'm sure this is a random thing.......but one of my neighbors had his mechanical arm taken right off his door. I would say time to keep lights on at night or get security lights.

found on other blog

The people and government have heard the "wake up" call. We need to demonstate in front of the Everett Police Headquarters. The police must be put on NOTICE....FIRST. That will wake up Mazzie. Mazzie REFUSED to come before the City Council as requested by MacKinnon. INVTE NO POLITICIANS. Just citizens who are concerned. The date could be "election day" SEPTEMBER 16. If there is any interest. I will call Channels 4,5,7, 12, CNN, and all the others. Everett Citizens must make a change. We left it up to the politicians and Police Chief with TERRIBLE RESULTS. If there is little interest...next step is a class action LAWSUIT against Mazzie and his cronies at the POLICE DEPARETMENT. GROSS FAILURE at protecting the people of Everett. REFUSING to meet with City Government. We have the right to "LIFE, LIBERTY and THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS"

The citizens of Everett can wait 16 months for Mazzie's contract to expire. FIRE HIM. Buy out his contract now. Get a person in as Police Chief that is COMPETANT. Everett should not allow 7 more peopleto be MURDERED as Mazzie goes on "conventions" to Atlantic City and Las Vegas for the "latest speeches" on how to deal with street crimes. If Carlo will not FIRE MAZZIE......THE PEOPLE WILL FIRE CARLO.....then MAZZIE.

the other blog is heating up with the firing of mazzie and carlo

People need to start showing their outrage. There needs to be more vigils for the victims of this crime wave that has been sweeping through. It should start at 9:00am in front of city hall (with the media) and walk up Broadway and end at the police station. The law abiding citizens deserve a lot better than what they have been getting. I am not blaming city government or the police for the crimes themselves however, both city government, and the police actions, after the fact, have been unacceptable. Instead, Leo McKinnon was left alone with this piece like it was insignificant.

That letter from Chief Mazzie was not only lame, it was totally NOT the point, whether the crimes are connected or not. Actually, the crimes NOT being connected are WORSE. That means there’s even more nuts out there. The Mayor should have been at the first common council meeting and made a brief statement along a representative from the police department. It did not have to be the chief and at least some minds would have been at ease knowing they are working on it. A town meeting is not a place for this situation. It’s like Wood Waste, it needs to stand on it’s own.

Sally – “keeping our eyes and ears open and notifying the police of suspicious activity” is a giant step in the right direction. Please realize that a lot of people do not have the courage to do that or simply do not want to be involved.

Tails – I didn’t hear anything about signs being stolen. Leaving our porch lights on at night, having security or motion lights is a great way to deter crime. If a resident does not want the expense of the extra electricity, the new energy bulbs are a great and inexpensive investment. If a streetlight is out – notify the electric company. If a tree is blocking the streetlight, call City Services and have the branches trimmed. I agree with you Tails, when you say that we residents should be outraged.

Crime is definitely on the rise and will continue to increase unless we work together – yes, I do mean work with the Police. I haven’t a clue what the mechanics of the Police force are. I do not have any guidelines to judge what Chief Mazzie is doing on a daily basis. I don’t care if he lives in Boxford – good luck to him. Where he lives is not the issue at this time. Don’t get me wrong – I do believe that the Police and Fire should live in the City or within the ten-mile radius of the Police or Fire Station at least for the first five years on the force. What I also care about is when we judge someone and place blame without doing our part. I believe Hillary Clinton wrote a book titled “It Takes a Village” and in this case, I believe it will take the joining of the Police Force and the residents who care, to rid Everett of the gangs and lowlifes who prowl our streets. Call Sergeant Jedrey at the Police Station. Ask what you can do as a resident. Attend his Crime Prevention meetings. Support our Police; yes support our Police! Why should they put their lives on the line for us if the attitude they receive is “all they do is sit in DD” or “why should I get involved – it’s your job and you get paid well for it”. The majority of the force are dedicated, hard-working people.

I don’t have all the answers, but crime is insidious and will continue to destroy Everett unless we accept nothing less than zero tolerance. I personally do not believe we can accomplish this by demonstrating at the Police Station. In our case, it will have “To Take a City” to join forces so that once again some of the freedoms we had such as sitting on our front porch will once again become a reality.

The signs being stolen were an agenda at the common council meeting. You are absolutely right that people have to get involved because you have to saw down a sign and that it not quite.

It is my belief that the police do what they can but they are not super human and they need our help. I am disappointed in the nonchalant attitude towards this crime wave and not one person from the administration or the police showed up to talk to Councilor McKinnon and the people of Everett. The city council was out for the entire summer and there were three murders. At least the Mayor and someone from the police department could have been there since it was an item on the agenda. It could have eased fears, especially to the elderly. They are scared to go outside and you know what….so am I. I have seen the biggest change and disrespect of youngsters (gang like) that are taking over the city. I can’t even sit in front of my house anymore because if these foul mouth punks are walking down the street and you make eye contact with them, you’re in for a confrontation.

Why do you suppose that the Mayor or the Police Chief didn't show up? How bad does it have to get?

There was a SALVADORIAN gang fight last night next to the Mama Blanca Hispanic bar and went down to Kippos pizzeria, I then called the cops. They arrived litteraly 2 seconds after. These gang members then all split. I dont know if there was any one wounded or arrested. There seems to be a lot of gang activity between Mama Blanca and the El Salvordian gangsters.

How did you know they were El Salvadorian gangsters? I know there is a fight every night in that place. I heard the cops going there earlier in the night also for some disturbance.
