I can't see that a reprimand for Tails is necessary. S/he has a right to express his thoughts and opinions and not be badgered and beaten by the likes of just wondering, JoeSister, and good old wanda bee. (who crawls out from under her rock periodically to cause trouble) I for one would be really happy if we could express an opinion, different from just wondering, without being hassled.
I'm not generally inclined to long for "the good old days" but when it comes to this blog, I certainly do. I still stop to read the new posts but generally try to hold back and stay out of the direct line of fire. Obviously, I lost that fight with myself tonight! |

Justme,
I couldn't agree with you more. Everyone should be able to express themselves and not have to put up with the nonsense that has been posted lately. Just my opinion. |

I have no problem with opinions.....but when you use a word as strong as "Illegal", it takes on the flavor of an accusation rather than opinion. There are some words that can be overlooked when an opinion is proved to be wrong. Illegal isn't one of those words....it tends to linger long after the accusation is proved to be incorrect. |

I believe that the standards on this board, for at least as long as I have been posting here anyways, have been that any opinion is fine, as long as it is labelled or it is obvious as such. If you want to present something as fact, you should try to back up it within that post or be prepared to provide some back-up when asked to. We don't always get that but at least we try. And the rules need to be applied equally to everyone. I don't know any other way to run a credible board. |

I feel when you say “I think” or “I believe” (which I did) is an opinion and was my opinion.
Mayor Ragucci and Mayor Hanlon both had public hearings on this matter but the fact is Mayor DeMaria was the one that promised there would be more meetings and did I hear him correctly that his “staff’ changed his mind? Can he not make a decision on his own and what about his word to the neighborhood? Maybe things would have been a little more different if the common council had the courtesy of some notice on the issue and the developer showed plans as to exactly what is going to be done, especially the parking issues. People in the neighborhood deserve to know……especially the ones that took their own time to attend the ward meeting where they were promised there would be more……..to know what the sale involves before getting it jammed down their throats. They have the right to sit down with the prospective buyer and view the plans before any papers are signed. It's just the right thing to do.
You can’t just give the Mayor a blank check to close this type of deal without full disclosure. That was not fair that the deal failed last year but passed this year with flying colors. The bottom line is it’s all about money and is this how the Wood Waste deal will go through too, and then we end up fighting in court for years? I don’t trust DeMaria.

Didn't the deal fail last year because both boards wanted to look into using that site for a youth center? |

Item #1 - Let's wait to see what happens. Item #5 - Status should be: Enrolled in concurrence, sent down for ordainment since it originated in the CC. Should get caught. Item #17 - Anybody have any idea what this item is all about? We've had small errors in our water bill two out of the last three billing cycles but nothing major. Item #19 - So let me get this straight. She wants more parking for the park but two weeks ago, she voted against fixing the road that leads to the park. Sounds about right...for her! Items #21 - 23 - Last week, I took a shot at Matewsky for putting items like this on the agenda so I guess one is needed here too. The difference with Common Council though is that they have their worksheet that is supposed to be used for this type of item. If they don't want to pick up the phone, they can use the worksheet. Why are these items on the regular agenda? Item #24 - Happened to walk down Florence Street last Sunday. They have asphalt sidewalks, just like Cottage Street and Gladstone Street. There are probably others scattered throughout the city as well. The park side of lower Florence Street hasn't had a real sidewalk since I was a teenager (35 or so years) and probably before (ever?). Still haven't gotten back the two items about the Board of Fire Commissioners that were referred to the City Solicitor's office two CC meetings ago. Didn't appear to be that complicated. Noticed in this week's Leader-Herald legal notices that the ordinances that were passed to eliminate the board had been signed into law by the mayor. So now we have some ordinances changed for it and others not. Probably not a big deal in this case, but it looks unprofessional. |
