It appears Carlo is doing a lot of reorganization by combining jobs and/or departments. This can definitely save money but also has the potential of adversely affecting the quality of services.
Hopefully, he's made the right choices with these consolidations and the people he's chosen to be responsible for them............. |

Peter Pet is now going to be in charge of the DPW, Zanaboni will now be in charge of Code Enforcement, Alderman Nuzzo will be in charge of the Parks and Rec center, and a news flash Ranieri might not be let go from his job...

At the beginning of the year you may find my post indicating a new director for City Services, and big changes for code enforcement. I actually think they are planning an inspectional services department, but there must be a city charter change to make that legal. Mr. Zaniboni will be the director of ISD. This was all planned from the beginning of Carlo's term.

Emile,
I thought someone was playing a joke with that post. Now that you refreshed my memory about your prediction from earlier in the year, I am now not so sure. You mentioned Mr Zaniboni, do you have any thoughts on the others that are mentioned in that post? |

Citizen (I know you still stop by occasionally),
It took me almost five months to figure this one out.....O.K., it was handed to me on a silver platter. Kinda of embarrassing that I couldn't put two and two together even after recent events. Time to drag out the "Gone are the days..." quote again. |

Hi Tetris:
I laughed when I read your message -- it's funny how things come around again, huh?
I'm afraid I learned a long time ago never to underestimate the predictability of any incoming administration to behave exactly the opposite of what their campaigns claimed they would. I don't think the current administration is as blatant as the last . . . but time will tell.
Hope all is well with you. |

Citizen,
Great to hear from you. Hope all is well with you too. I'm glad that I could give you a laugh.
I don't know if the issue is that the current administration is less blatant than the last or if we just have less to measure the current one against, i.e., there's no 12 point plan to kick around. But we need to find measurement criteria were we can. I recently re-watched the first portion of the mayor's campaign video to listen to the "new development" portion of it again. I let it run a little longer and the mayor was talking about how illegal rooming houses were the number one problem of the city. Not that I'm clued into everything that goes on in the city but that's not something I've seen a great deal of progress on. I realize that things take time but we're more than six months into this now; it's time to start making some real progress. But as you say, only time will tell.
Citizen, we miss your insight. Please consider stopping by more often again. |

Thanks for the kind words, Tetris. I still frequently read the commentaries that you and my other "message board buddies" post, but to be perfectly honest, the antics of the previously adminstration really sucked the political life out of me. I had to step away from it all for a while.
It's been interesting to watch how the new mayor has tried to balance being everyone's pal with being the chief executive officer of the city. It certainly hasn't been as discouraging as the performance of the previous administration -- some decisions have been good, some have been okay, a couple have been fairly bone headed. We'll see what happens when the tax rate is set.

I certainly understand where you are coming from Citizen. I took an opportunity myself to step back, for the most part, after last fall's election and really didn't get ramped up again until after the first of the year. This summer lull has been driving me up the wall though and I can't wait for things to get ramped up again. I believe that there are interesting times ahead on many fronts. |

I thought I would move this question here.....was a reason given for a firing, or was he laid off? Although I was no fan of a city worker being on the council, it was permitted, and I hate to see anyone loose their job in this economy, and especially this time of year. That's too bad. |

I don't like to see anyone lose their job but now maybe the new city trucks will last a little longer. Anyone ever see the way he drove the city vehicles? Does he still work for Carlo at Honey Dew Donuts? |

I've seen him blasting up and down Tileston St, so I agree there. I'm not the only other one that has witnessed that reckless driving, and I've witnessed it on Chelsea St. too. Those trucks were not cheap, so I hope the director puts some type of plan in action, and the drivers held accountable for their actions. Those trucks have been driven like a rental car. They don't care, because it's not theirs personally, but they belong to the taxpayers. |
