I don't think that anyone here is of the opinion that the mayor should have come in guns blazing and made change for change sake. (Oh, wait...he did some of that...oh, that's OK, they were just political liabilities anyways.)
I think the frustration that a lot of us feel is with the dibs and drabs of information that we are getting. Maybe we are not supposed to be getting that information either but somehow it finds it way out there. Last night was a great example of the frustration that I am feeling anyways. Last night, the portion of the budget process that the Mayor controls ended until the City Council finishes its work; the mayor will be a part of this process but he does not control it (A serious side note. The Mayor did a good job of staying out of the fray with Councilor Simonelli, deferring to the council president.) I would have expected the mayor's speech to have contained some details about how he plans to re-shape the adminstration of city government; instead, we got none. If city hall is not happy with what has been going on out on the boards since last night, they have no one but themselves to blame. |

here is a hint if this is TRUE village area and I don't want to see people lose jobs either but you have to think of it this way, they are making way to much money and the insurance rates alone and their salary will save the city of everett money so hopefully the tax rate will go down. I think that Carlo has taken the bull by the horns and his doing good for the tax payers of this city. This is just my opinion, someone has to take a stand lets face it, it's getting worse out there not any better. |

Part of what should have been included in last night's speech was how much money is being saved by going in this direction. Lost a chance for some excellent PR. |

Does this person work down at City Services? Scrap that.
We'll just have to wait and see, again! |

ur warm massdee budget hearings meeting May 29th 6pm, may 31 at 745am and june 5 630pm let's hope it's not a repeat like last year but some will play politics I am sure of it. I would say tetris the money that will be saved won't show up till next years budget in 2010 so if you take the three salaries and the cost of health insurance I think it would be a great savings to the taxpayers |

Charm,
I'm not sure I follow why there won't be a cost savings from these cuts until FY2010. Please explain. |

maybe I am wrong for 2010 but, when they cut for next year 2009 you don't usually see the saving until the next fiscal budget |

If we see any tax increase due to the FY09 budget in 2009, why wouldn't we see any savings from the FY09 budget in 2009? |

If the positions are cut as of the beginning of FY2009, the cost savings should begin as of July 1 and they won't need to be included in the taxy levy. The change to the tax levy won't show up in your tax bill until January but since they will be adjusted for a full year's expenses, you will get the full effect reflected in your tax bills paid for FY09. If that makes any sense. |

While I will agree, there were useless jobs out there (Ranieri, etc) that had to go, and I'm happy to see them go (because they were unnecessary burdens on the taxpayers)
I know who your referring too, and I will tell you that is not a "cut" position. I also feel that person does an excellent job. I will wait until the official word is out but it's not going to go over well. |

I agree with you Tails 100% it's a slap in the face, and I hope this is not true but, I have spoken to several people today and it all seems to be leaning that way, like I said earlier it will save the tax payers some money on the created postions that should of never been created but time will tell. I am not getting involved in the wood waste thing it doesn't effect me I don't live in this city, I am interesting in seeing who the VSO will be, I mean Memorial is this weekend does the city have one yet? |
