Traveling on Ferry St. yesterday, I noticed that the same people who used to sell flowers (without a permit) are doing it again. These people owe thousands of dollars in water bills, (i think over $35,000)yet are still throwing in our faces. I pay all my tax bills on time yet they continue to stay in arrears. The police used to close them down, but yesterday they were selling again. I am so tired of my bills skyrocketing but I pay and these tax cheats don't even get closed. He even goes around selling things out of his truck. All they know how to do is beat the system I guess. I think the Mayor and City Government should take a good look at this. I am absolutely appalled.

They've been getting away with this for a very long time and I agree they should be shut down. Any idea why they're not?

At one time I thought it was political, but there's been a few administration changes so that's obviously not it.

Glad to see a good use by the BOA of adding an item under suspension to address this issue tonight. Now all they have to do is to get the police on the same page.

Which flower vendor are we discussing? Is it the person on Ferry Street near the Nichol's Street intersection?

I stopped there once several years ago, he was rude and fouled mouthed, I ended up walking away. Standing with him at the time I was there was a former Councilman who is now an Alderman.

Do you mean the one whose body language tonight when the item was being discusssed appeared as if he wanted to say something but he knew enough for a change to keep his mouth shut?

My daughter walked in the room when they were discussing this issue, so I missed the whole thing. I am talking about the former Councilman from Ward 1. Is that who you mean, Tetris?

No, the alderman from the Ward 2. Well, we probably know who two of the alderman that gave them signatures were now.

And just for reference, from the 02/11/2008 BOA meeting report:

A0049-08  Committee Report
License Committee Report on Petition from Billy & Terry Onessimo for selling flowers on most weekends, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Holiday weekends, February 14, Easter, Mother's Day, at 140 Ferry Street.

NO ACTION NECESSARY

No action was necessary because they withdrew their petition. But not without Jason trying to supply a defense for them.

Did you hear Alderman Sachetta say the flower selling people called him and when he told them on the phone he had to ask about it...(because he is a new Alderman) the woman yelled to someone else..." He (Sachetta) is not going to sign it" and hung up on Mr. Sachetta. A lot of class...

I wonder who the other alderman that they thought they could get a signature from was? Probably not RVC or DiPerri; RVC called the cops on them, DiPerri thought that it could be an open meeting violation. Nuzzo, who took great umbridge at the suggestion of an open meeting law violation now or in the past, or Marchese, who along with Marcus and Matewsky, said nothing. Hmmm....

To my way of thinking, it probably would have been better if she put any profits made on Sunday against the water bill that they owe.

Who is "she"? I have only seen the man there. His sister and her kids live in the house. Not the same last name, and they have nothing to do with the flowers.

And because you've only seen a man there, there's no "she"?

Many people employed at city hall said the woman who was bringing flowers to all the departments came from the Ferry St flower seller. I don't have a name, height, weight, or age. I'm merely passing along information obtained from friends.
