I guess I never realized that street sweeping got skipped on the "fifth" day of a month having a driveway available and parking only on one side of the street. So if it falls just right, it is possible for some streets to get done some weeks and others not. And I thought the holiday thing was bad.

Wouldn't it have been fairer just to sweep all the streets every week during street sweeping season? Are the streets in less need of cleaning because it is a "fifth day"? The schedule could be simple. Starting with the week containg April 1, parking would be allowed on one side would then alternate to the other side the next. Weeks 1,3,5 etc. could be the odd side and Weeks 2,4,6 etc. could be the even side. A schedule could go out in the excise tax bills. Other sources for the info could be made readily available, the papers, the city web site and ECTV.

The only issue that I can't answer is there a need for some extended downtime for the equipment every month? If the calendar falls the right way (30 day month with 5 Saturdays and Sundays), they won't get it anyways. Don't know the answer to that one.

If the city is commited to getting cleaner, perhaps this is an issue that needs to be revisited. But, of course, that would mean changing all the signs or at least stickers to cover the current language. Sigh, nothing is easy.

Emile,

Is that $3K figure per sweeper? Does that include the driver? I saw two GTA sweepers doing the streets today. Are we paying $6K a week?

Did the city purchase new street sweepers again? There were three of them out there this morning. They were white and black with advertising on them and said 800-Sweep. The driver that I saw did not look like a city worker and was not wearing the usually jacket that the workers wear.

Here's the company that was sweeping our streets today. I wonder why the city wasn't doing their own streets? How much is this costing the taxpayers?
