I'm hearing Local 25 isn't happy.......... Carlo is trying to eliminate a Holiday and change increases to 1% instead of the 3% the contract calls for.

He sure isn't scoring many points lately. I hope the city can get through this. Two consecutive bad administrations is going to be very difficult to overcome. I'm afraid we're in for some very tough times.............

I thought that all of the city's union contracts except police and fire were up as June 30th. Am I wrong?

Do you know if this would be for all the unions?

Fire & Police end 6/30/09, Local 25 ended 6/30/08. All Local 25 bargaining units are in negotiations now. It will be interesting to see what the city offers them.

Okay, my info was close, but wrong. Apparently he's trying to eliminate the holiday and has only offered a 1% increase. I also heard he's threatening layoffs. When was the last time this city had a strike? Ever?

The bargaining process needs to start somewhere; don't get the elimination of a holiday with a low-ball increase though. Let's hope that some modification to health care benefits (i.e., the GIC or where ever the city is headed) is also included.

I heard tonight he's trying to cut a union position and was not happy when told if he was able to do that and tried to fill it again, it would have to be another local 25 person and there is no way around that.I'm curious if this is all unions or just local 25 and why pick on local 25? It’s a little suspicious. I have to agree about the health care. There needs to be changes and I think Henderson was headed in the right direction.

Wasn't Henderson working on the health care issue with Local 25? It seems to me I was told they were talking about bringing city employees (union & non-union) into their health plan...............

I believe that it was mentioned that Mr. Henderson had had some conversion with the union about changing the health care plan; but until it get incorporated into the union contracts, it is nothing more than talk.

I'm sorry, that's what I meant about Henderson. Bringing Union and non-union employees into a cheaper health care.

After reading this I'm very interested in what's going on with the old High School.

The idea of all "Administrative Offices" in one location seems to be a reasonable idea. I don't believe that the police or fire stations are included in that move. It would, however, open up the UGLY city hall for sale. If it was done right, it could work.

You are right, it could work and no doubt that centralizing administrative offices could be cost savings however, I don’t think that’s what the writer of the site was saying. I think the concern is about who would be the interested developer and who it is that has the means to outbid anyone else. I also think the writer meant the Mayor would not propose this without there also being some additional payoff/trade off that could benefit him either personally or politically. But, that is just my take on it.
