I think I heard the mayor mention something along those lines at a recent meeting or during the budget hearings. I can recall him saying something about fire and police and the 911 going up there. Does anyone else remember that? I only vaguely remember him saying something. |

The way that I've heard the administration talk about this proposal, it does include the police station, the 911 center, the central fire station and the Hancock Street fire station as a part of this complex, along with city hall and the school administration building. Conceptually, it's an interesting idea; however, practically, I'd need to see a lot more before I could consider supporting it though.
I don't understand the line of thought that selling all of these parcels could be a great boon to the mayor's re-election campaign though. First off, the old properties could not go out for an RFP until the city discontinued their use. How could this happen before the new/remodeled/whatever complex is ready. No way that is going to happen between now and next year's election. Even if it were possible, I don't see how the mayor could benefit by it vote-wise in any major way. Any benefit would be financial but, with the exception of the current city hall site, are any of these sites really desirable development sites?
Also, I didn't understand the assertion that part of the reason that Mr. Carlisle was hired was to make this happen. If anything, especially after what we have seen from him so far, Mr. Carlisle is going to a major "speed bump" in anything that he is involved with.
Sorry not to have posted these comments on the site where the original comments were posted but since the discussion of the post was taking place here, I felt it was more appropriate to post my comments here. |

Yes, I remember him saying that. What I do not like about it is the fact the Mayor was really pushing to sell properties to Thibeault and was adamant about the market being so bad and who's going to buy it if Thibeualt doesn’t.....we will never get rid of him he will own the entire city and do what ever he pleases.
Does "MASTER PLAN" sound familiar too? |

Getting back to the Local 25 issues, the city does in fact want Local 25 to give up Bunkerhill Day. They feel it is an embarassing Holiday for Middlesex county. Local 25 said no because Police & Fire both have it in their contracts. As far as the insurance issue goes, Henderson would like to see GIC come to play, however, it isn't such a good deal for the employees. GIC's co pays would be much higher than some of the other plans now. As far as Local 25 coverage, it can only come into the city if it is offered to everyone,Police, Fire & teachers included & since they are in different locals it cannot be offered to them unless they were paying Local 25 dues which they can not because they are not in that Union. I heard the teacher's accepted 2-2-2 for the next 3 years. Any one know for sure? |

Here you go Justme:

If you haven't been there, just a warning; sometimes it can be like the Mirror on steroids and now is one of those times. Didn't know that you didn't frequent it. About a month or so ago, you got lumped in with Massdee, Tails and myself and were attacked over there. I think that we took care of it pretty well. The thread title just contains our names if you are interested in looking at it. |

Thanks guys! I don't think I'll post, but I want to know what's going on over there. It definitely has that "Mirror" feel to it and I never could abide what went on there. |

I just went over to that site and I feel like I need to go take a shower now after reading all the filth being posted. It's so tempting to respond to some of the more nonsensical and hateful posts, but . . . better not to get sucked in.
Thanks for the link, but I think I'll stay right here with you guys! |

The Everett Topix thread used to be a place where you could go for a little bit of comic relief and ocassionally find a scrap or two of information. Since the murder on Ferry Street however, it's taken a decided turn for the nasty on a much more regular basis. I think that it is still interesting to read to get a sense of what people are feeling but it is definitely not for the faint of heart. |
