No way.
I thought he was "so great" and "so qualified."
I can not confirm this but I "heard" he in fact was not with FEMA this summer. Whether he was paid or not, he should not have had the opportunity to take a month off just starting a brand new position. There are plenty of other people there with more seniority that cant do that. |

While your sending fruit baskets to terminated employees perhaps you should put John Hanlon on that list that was nearly killed when he slipped off a truck. On top of receiving 6 broken ribs he may have permanent kidney damage. I find it classless that you had only one newspaper out of three that would even print a word on it and the advocate rag found joy in kicking a man when he was truly down. Yes, let the taxpayers keep stuffing his pockets with the cities legal notices, like he deserves it. |

I don't believe anyone here was kicking him while he was down, nor are we responsible for what the papers choose to print. We also are not responsible for placing the legal notices............. If you've got a problem, take it to the papers, don't jump on us! |

I think you misunderstood my post, my post was aimed at the advocate and the joke of the fruit basket. I read the article by the advocate about cashing pension checks and he really drilled into the man when he was very ill. No need at all for that. He should thank his lucky stars that he still earns a living and not boast on other peoples pain. |

Sorry Dreams, I guess I did misunderstand!
I didn't see any of the papers last week so I can't speak to what was/wasn't in any of them. However, I will say I think they all leave a lot to be desired.......... |

Ouch…..the poor guy. I understand he was only trying to help because the truck was so big and he had that truck license. I hear he’s home and went to Frank Dortenzio's wake against doctors advice. I had issues with the Advocate too about the State Rep race and they should be fair but that’s the way these newspapers are. I wouldn’t pay much attention, they are the ones that have to look at themselves every morning and should have more respect for a former Mayor of the city, regardless. Believe me, the Advocate looked like an idiot with that article. |

Concerning the Assistant Treasurer position, why is that not on cityofeverett.com?
The Water & Sewer Superintendent was, along with a revised job description, and of course the Veterans Agent was too. I think that position should have read Veterans Officer, but whatever.
I just don't understand why some positions are really advertised and some are not at all. If they are equal opportunity, then all positions should be advertised via papers/website, not pick and choose.
I also wonder if the Budget Directer & Purchasing Agent positions will be available, and what now with the "consolidations"

I've been meaning to ask where that job posting was found; I haven't found it any place that I happen to frequent.
Issues with job postings would be the responsibility of the personnel department. Since the personnel director position was eliminated, I'm not sure who picked up responsibility for that particular function.
I posted the following when the issue of consolidation first came up: "This to me is an admission that the offices are being combined not necessarily because it makes sense but because of the people that will be heading them. That's all well and good as it should allow you to take advantage of a particular person's strengths. But what happens when that person is no longer there? Will you be able to keep the combination in place? Might this be a good short term decision that the city ends up paying for in the long run?"
Unless the city is able to find someone else that is able to fill both the budget director and purchasing agent functions, there are going to be some issues. At a minimum, the FY 2009 budget that was passed assumes the two functions will be combined. The salary amount allocated to the combined position is probably not sufficient to fund the two full-time positions if they had to be split. I guess that we'll have to watch for more job postings to find out what direction the city is going to be headed in. |

So….right now the city does not have a budget director, a personnel director, or a purchasing agent. I would say we are not in good shape right now. The fire department is still at capacity, I think the Mayor needs to focus on city hall right now and getting that straitened out and leave the fire department to the chief. |

This position is available however, I ask the question as to why certain ones are "overly" advertised and some hardly, like this one. That is not keeping the standard of equal opportunity.

As for Mr. Clayton, who knows. The word was he was "abusive" but I also heard the AG ruling says you can not consolidate these positions. I would assume that's an easy find out. Jill Barringer is the purchasing agent for 60 days (learned this at the Town Meeting) but she never went through the BOA (maybe she didn't have too) Simonelli was concerned at the meeting over not having a purchasing agent, budget director, personnel director. The funny part was when Simonelli asked if he had a personnel director the Mayor says "Yup we do, he's here till the end of the month" He had ONE day left. Thats not having a personnel director. He assures people he has qualified staff that can handle all these tasks but he said the same thing about CLAYTON CARLISLE.
Jill Barringer is a lawyer not a purchasing agent. I think city hall is in disarray.
