I am concerned that discontinuing fourth street will stop people from seeing the back of Wood Waste. I know you can see the mountains, but you have to see all the stuff laying around overturned in the back and if you cant use fourth street anymore, it's going to get worse because no one will see. What guarantee does the planning board get?? I'm sorry, he's not trustworthy, and the only thing it does is not allow the abutters and the public to use it. If it was in the original purchase and sale......and an abutter took the city to court and won over it.........why cant he give in a little and accept it...purchase the old city yards and move on. That would have showed "a little" good faith. But, of course not.

If this is a public hearing does that mean the public can ask questions? |

Sorry to pick on you tails but this is a perfect example of you being unprepared when you post.....the street we are talking about is only a street on paper.....there hasnt been a car on it in over 20 years. Discontinuing 4th street does not help him hide his piles of debris. I hope the mayors office supplies the planning board with some sort of aerial view of the site so the meeting stays on track. It's important for people to know exactly piece of land is being discussed. Apparently, there is some confusion still.

That area down there is very confusing, could someone please explain exactly where 4th Street is? Does it run from Carter Street to the intersection of Vine and Garden Streets? Does 4th Street cross over Boston Street? I am confused. |

Granted, Fourth Street was done wrong (if) it was in the original purchase and sale (for the old city yards) AND approved that way by the city council. An abutter had to go and spend thousands and thousands for lawyer…and she won. Instead of being a good corporate neighbor because something was done wrong and try and work it out and compromise with people instead of suing a city like Everett that cant afford all these legal fees he goes and sucks the last red cent out of the taxpayers of Everett. Those abutters have been dealing with cat sized rats for years and he just thumbs his nose to it. I think these issues are more important than being petty about a street being paper or not. If you drive down the street in between Wood Waste and Stop and Shop and stop at the first stop sign then take a right. There is a “road” that has a “Fourth Street” sign. I have driven down there and at the end it’s grassy. It is confusing however what we have been dealing with is suffering and NO ONE is addressing that issue FIRST. We have been made promises about waste removal that has not happened and promised it would not take this long no matter what. He keeps accepting waste at Wood Waste and it’s not going anywhere. This planning board meeting is a farce as far as I am concerned. None of this should be on the agenda until these other issues are dealt with.

I believe it stretches from Garden to Boston Street......the portion that is looking be discontinued is parallel to the parkway with the old c.y. on one side (for the entire length) and harley davidson/car lot on the the other side. It's difficult to notice because it looks more like a vacant lot and less like a street. If you were to come off the parkway on Boston street, stop as soon as you get to the city yard, turn 90 degrees so that the city yard is on your left and Harley Davidson is on your right......the strip of land in between is forth street. Again....it's easy to miss since it does not look like a street at all.
The portion that would not be discontinued would provide the same access to local business as currently exists. |

Thanks, do you know what the 4th Street sign is down on Carter Street behind Wood Waste? Does that connect to the 4th Street running next to the city yards?
Also, that brings me back to another question. If it is parallel to the city yards how does it give direct access to the Parkway as stated in the newspapers? I just don't get it.
That car repair shop down there on the corner, is that Garden Street or 4th Street? I know Woody's and the Parkway Pub are Garden Street. |

Ellen,
Yes, the public is allowed to speak at a public hearing. However, the board will probably keep a tight reign on the subject matter that can be discussed at this one.
Massdee,
Per the legal notice that was published in the Advocate, this is what is being proposed for discontinuance:
Fourth Street
Beginning at a point on the southwesterly side of Boston Street and Fourth Street. Running N37-48-38W a distance of 551.92 feet to a point; thence turning and running N52-10-42E a distance of 50.00 feet to a point; thence turning and running S37-48-38E a distance of 551.92 feet to a point at the SW corner of Boston and Fourth Street, thence turning and running S52-11-22W a distance of 50.00 feet to the point of the beginning.
Said parcel containing 27,596 square feet. |

I believe that the current discontinuance does not reach all the way to Garden Street; I believe that it stops something short of that (50 feet?) That's what the abutters won in court and why this proposal is in front of the planning board now. |

Okay, so it has nothing to do with the 4th Street off of Carter Street. This is exactly where "Just Wondering" was explaining, running the length of the old city yards from Boston Street to just short of Garden Street. Now, do I have it right?
Like I said before, I am not against this, I am just trying to get a true picture of it in my head. |
