I just got a reverse 911 phone call from the Mayor about his mailer that he sent out. On the mailer it says paid for by the committee to Elect Carlo DeMaria. Is there a reason why he would use a city service for his campaign? I thought reverse 911 was for emergency city information. If anyone could shed some light on this it would be appreciated.

I would say that is unethical and against campaign finance laws.

Do you know for certain Ralph that it was a reverse 911 call? There are services that you can use (and pay for) that will accomplish the same thing. Do you happen to have caller ID and, if so, a telephone number of where the call was originated from?

I don't know that much about those services that you can use to do the equivalent of reverse 911 calls. But, one would think that they would not appear to come from an official city telephone number (happens to be the mayor's office, according to the city web site) just to avoid the appearance of any impropriate.

Oh, boy! Here we go....

I also received a call, and my caller ID said, City Of Everett, 617-394-2270. That is indeed the number to the Mayor's Office. So, now our tax dollars are paying for his campaign. That sounds illegal to me.

I called the number. It is the mayor's office. Is there a state agency where we can make a complaint on this issue? If anyone has that info, could you please post it here? Thanks.

Political activity is expressly prohibited within any public buildings.
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm it appears "someone" is above the law.... or believes they are....

MassDee: The authority you are seeking is that of the Ethics Commission or the Office of Campaign and Political Finance under the auspices of the Secretary of State.

Everyone should call the Office of Campaign Finance (OCPF) at (617) 727-6549 and complain. I just did, but the more calls they get the better. Let this buffoon know that even if he doesn't have an opponent yet, we are watching.

Hopefully SOMEONE on the Council or Alderman will grow a set and start hammering him instead of letting him break every rule he wants.

This conduct can also be reported to the State Ethics Commission. The mailer that was sent out was plainly marked "Authorized and Paid for by The Committee to Elect Carlo DeMaria" and Reverse 911 was used to follow up on the mailing.

This is inappropriate and the taxpayers should not tolerate this. We all need to be making calls to put our complaints in. It needs to get on the record. Just because he is mayor, does not mean he can do whatever he damn well pleases.

I hope his puppets on the city council realize the voters are not happy with this blatant disregard of the campaign finance regulations. This can not be tolerated.
