I noticed on the Board of Alderman's agenda that the mayor will be presenting his budget May 31st. Finally something to watch on TV.

And it will be a situation comedy, I'm sure - complete with bumbling pratfalls, orchestrated hijinks, and canned laughter. Fiction - at its finest. |

Ahhh, the ongoing saga called "Desperate Bedfellows". Starring everyone's favorite basket weaver, Walking Eagle, and of course, the inimitable FFF.
I'm starting the popcorn now.

May I suggest a healthy slug of Tequila...to get us through the bad acting? The script will be passed, from hand to hand. "This is a true budget....the truest, bluest budget that there ever was." "Any budget increases are the fault of the previous administration." "We uncovered corruption AFTER we locked all the papers in a locked room."
I wonder if we'll be able to see the budget director's mouth move when Mayor Walking Eagle speaks? Ventriloquism is a learned art. |

It's 6:45, nothing going on. Does anyone know what's up? Now it's 7:45, still nothing. Is the presentation going on? Is ECTV having problems? Was the presentation postponed? Did the mayor forget where he put the budget book? Did he forget to show up? Did his administration jump ship? Does anyone know what's going on? |

Okay . . . do we know if the Mayor delivered the budget? I wasn't home to watch the meeting, but massdee, from the sounds of things -- perhaps there were some convenient "technical difficulties"? |

The budget hearings will be televised and they start next Thursday with the school department and then all other departments Saturday.
The new Budget is 125 million up another 13 million from last year. that is 23 million in 2 years. I wonder if this is a TRUE BUDGET.
Hang on to your wallets. |

Does anyone know why the mayors presentation wasn't televised last night? After reading Been Here's post, I hope our city council really takes a hard look at this budget and helps the taxpayer out. I can't believe they have the nerve to ask for another 13 million. He should have been trying to slash the budget not add to it. It would have even if he level funded, but of course he couldn't do that, he ran over with his true budget with a 10 million dollar increase from the year before. Real smart fiscal management...........NOT. |

We got nothing from last years increase except lies and deceit. What can we expect this year? More of the same?
I hope the CC & BOA do their homework & any cuts they make are for the right reasons.
I'm not happy with this administration or the tax increase we had last year. (And can look forward to again this year.) However, I also don't want to see this budget rejected out of hand. They need to cut the fat and force department heads to stay within budget.
If the auditor keeps the accounts current and the CC & BOA assume some responsibility and look at the numbers, they can prevent some of the problems. They need to watch the numbers all year, not just in May when people are looking for transfers and it’s too late to correct the situation. If they take the time, they will see which departments look like they may be overspending and stop it up front.
How can he increase the budget by 13 million and bring back the exemption that we couldn't afford last year??? The man is an idiot!

What is this about a 6% sales tax? Did the Mayor say he was reinstating the residential tax exemption? |

The mayor wants to join Menino in establishing a 6% meals and hotel tax in the City of Everett also. we have no hotels sooooo that means meals will cost 6% more.
I am amazed that he is still raising the budget, meanwhile our streets are deterioratng rapidly. I do not believe he has resurfaced one street this past year. |
