The vote was to leave Mazzie hanging until Hanlon could make a decision. Of course we all know what that would be.
It was the BOA's responsibility to vote on his contract tonight, not to hold it over for John Hanlon's decision. That was not the vote on the agenda.
I am terribly disappointed in the way a particular alderman voted tonight. Someone I thought had more balls than what he showed tonight.
Also, if Jason Marcus asks me how I feel about him (Do you like me?) He will get an earful.
I am tired of holding back on my comments while ****heads like him control city government.

Bravo, H1! Yes, it was their responsibility, and like the cowards that they are, they passed it off. Just like it was their responsibility to take a stand on the suspension of the superintendent, and they shirked that responsibility as well.
Anyone who sat at last week's Finance Committee and witnessed how little grasp of the financial state of the City John Hanlon actually has . . . and then could vote to hand over that money to his incoming administration . . . it's just beyond words. And then to have the camera pan to the audience and see our Mayor elect sitting with his "financial gurus" -- Don Andrew and Domenic D'Angelo -- well, we all better start saving our money in shoeboxes, because having these guys in charge of our financial future is like giving WC Fields the key to the liquor cabinet. Don Andrew is one of the most unctious, disingenuous, dishonest, self-serving people ever to manage a ledger sheet. God have mercy if this is the best that Hanlon can do. |

That is the best he can do. Bring back the old guys. That is all John Hanlon can understand, old, old, and more old.
I am extremely frustrated with city government tonight.
I am taking two valiums and a shot of southern comfort, and I am stealing a doggie bisquet from the pup tonight just to relax.

Thanks lisa,
I'm an old pro at this, the pup and I have been through a lot together.
Don't worry lisa, the pup and I do not take unnecessary risks.
Thank you for your concern.

update....
People who have been in meetings with the transition team say that Hanlon seems confused and bewildered. Hart is the person who has taken charge of the meetings.
When do you thing John Hanlon will realise that he is the new Mayor?

Mr. Hanlon is in way over his head. I'm glad that Hart is helping him though. I would hate to see him taken advantage of by Andrews and D'Angelo. Neither one of them are prizes. |

Taken advantage of? Hanlon's not naive . . . he knows what these people are, and he accepted their help anyway. But yes, he is definitely in over his head. I heard that when he was at the Finance Committee meeting to discuss applying the $2m to the tax levy, he had no compelling plan for keeping that money in free cash other than "we might need it." He didn't seem to have any grasp of the city's financial situation nor could he articulate even a six month financial plan for the city when he takes office in January. And yet, the Board of Aldermen voted to hand over $4.3 million of our tax dollars to use as Monopoly money.
The next two years are going to be . . . interesting. |

This city may actually be in real trouble.
I'm not speaking rhetorically. I mean..REALLY in trouble.
Mr. Hanlon has no idea what he's supposed to do.

I've heard from several sources . . . including those who supported Hanlon . . . that he's having a very difficult time with various levels of "decision making" that he needs to do to get his Administration moving. He's attended several meetings -- particularly those having to do with the city finances -- in which it is painfully clear that he has absolutely no grasp of even the simplest financial concepts. It seems that, in spite of having campaigned for this position three times and finally achieving the goal of the corner office, Mr. Hanlon never thought he would win and now that he has, he's the proverbial "deer in the headlights."
Be afraid . . . be very afraid . . . |

My feelings exactly....I have heard the same.
Why did he actually campaign?
We all know that answer...................
