Just saw this on Topix: NANA AOL Reply » |Report Abuse |Judge it! |#81 1 hr ago both girls in the parking clerks ofc, lost their jobs too! 2 new monday, 1 girl worked for the city for yrs, and her prior service was not honored by the union! getting vistor passes/stickers,hearings done, is going to be a challenge. myway Malden, MA Reply » |Report Abuse |Judge it! |#82 30 min ago How can a child be supervised, on the job, by a parent? That what's happening with the ticket people.......... That's fair, right?
Better pay your tickets by mail as soon as you get them. That office is going to be a fricking disaster! myway Malden, MA Reply » |Report Abuse |Judge it! |#83 25 min ago Jillian wrote: The layoffs are here. 9 clerical jobs were eliminated. As usual the lowest paid are the hardest hit. My concern is that there were a few single mothers in that group. They are also all from Everett. How come the highest paid department heads that don't even live in the city aren't even being asked to take a pay cut. Clerical workers make just under 34000.00/yr. The department heads start at well over 80,000.00. Maybe they could take a cut & have all workers go to 4 day. Ya right that would be the day one of the higher ups would worry about the real workers in the city. Not all department heads earn the kind of money you're talking about. I believe all of Carlo's new hires do but not the others.
A few years ago Ragucci had all department heads take a week unpaid to save jobs & money. That should have been the first place Carlo went!
Looks like things are heating up and as usual, the little guy will be the loser. Too bad Carlo can't run his office with one or two reasonably paid people. That alone would save 4 or 5 jobs! |

Great news!! In the midst of the layoffs and pay cuts Chief of police Mazzi is getting a $15000 dollar raise!! Boy I am so relieved.. I was worried he wouldnt be able to afford his kids private schooling in Boxford. and even better he can drive them safely to school now in his brand new Ford Explorer compliments of the city of Everett |

It's really too bad Carlo & the unions weren't able to work things out. Nine people from the clerical union will be unemployed when they walk out the door Friday.
Morale has been pretty bad at city hall for awhile............ Can you imagine how low it will be on Monday? |

I feel Carlo could have laid off the two part time employees in his office and that would have saved at least two of the clerical positions.

I think their salaries may be high enough to have saved three or four positions! It really is a sad situation........ |

During the budget hearings, can the members cut those part time positions in the mayors office?

I don't think so. If I remember correctly, they can't actually eliminate any positions. They can decrease funding for a department but that wouldn't necessarily guarantee a position would be eliminated. That decision would be up to the department head and/or the mayor.
I don't think cutting funding to Carlo's office will do anything more than p*ss him off...........

I am pretty sure you are right. Your post jogged my memory to past budget hearings. It's too bad Carlo didn't eliminate those positions on his own. It has been said that those part time employees also have full time jobs, elsewhere. Do you know if that is true?

I was told one of them (Jerry?) works full time at the post office. I don't know about the other. |

So, someone who is earning a weeks pay from the Post Office is still working part time in the mayor's office. It doesn't seem right to me. People who depend on one salary are losing their jobs at city hall and at least one part time employee with a full time job stays on at city hall. As a taxpayer, I would prefer paying for the clerical help to stay at city hall.
