Police investigate string of car fires in Malden Enlarge this image MALDEN, Mass. -- Police are investigating three suspicious car fires in the same Malden neighborhood.
Max Nappa's '98 Mecury Sable was set ablaze right outside his front door on Bellvale Street late Sunday night
Nappa said he heard a couple of "pops." When he ran outside, he saw that his neighbor's car was also on fire.
"I'm an auto mechanic and I put that car together myself so it's worth a lot to me and it burned pretty good, the whole front and the hood was fully engulfed in flames," Nappa said.
Just an hour before the two cars were burned, a car parked on Sammett street, roughly a mile away, went up in flames
"I mean it was a big, big bright fire, like a big bright fire. The whole front of the vehicle was like up on fire," said Yvonne, who witnessed the fire.
The three car fires happened within an hour of each other.
Malden fire investigators told 7NEWS that all of the fires have been deemed suspicious and that there is a good chance they are connected because all of the fires started in the same part of each car -- the right front wheel.
The fires have not been limited to cars. On Monday, Mike Genzale caught someone trying to light some bushes on fire on Arch Street.
Police said it is too early to determine if there is an arsonist on the loose in Malden, but neighbors are concerned.
"That's scary, you know? That's not a good thing," Yvonne said.
No arrests have been made. Officials are investigating.
