If you look at the entire document (You must be logged in to see this link.) Crueller, you'll see that the Sulivan/Assembly Square/Wellington link is being eliminated in favor of this new route. Just a warning though, the document is rather larger and takes a while to download. The project is still in a conceptual design phase so who knows what the final design will ultimately include.
From what I heard, most of the elected officials (and candidates) that spoke were pretty adamant about the need for at least a blinking traffic light with on-demand walk cycle at Thorndike Street. As far as being on point, well that depends on how you look at the project. The project team thought that they were for presentation on a reconstruction project; what they got was an earful on all of the traffic issues in the area. That was more from the residents than the elected officials though but it forced politicians to get involved as well.
As I previously mentioned, the Mayor had left the meeting by that point; the Community Development Director was gone by then too leaving the Engineering Department holding the bag and they didn't have the answers people were looking for. When the Mayor had spoken earlier, he ended his brief comments talking about new lighting and banners. Take that for what you will.
Tails, to answer a couple of your questions, I heard that the subject of the building at the corner of Beacham did come up. Mass Highways would have liked to see that building come down. However, it would have been the city's responsibility to acquire the property and they didn't want to do it. As far as the Tobin goes, the issue of giving Everett residents a discount did come up. Control of the bridge may change from Massport to Mass Highways. If that were to occur, Mass Highways said they would at least consider the possibility; but, if Massport retained control, they admitted that they doubted that it would ever happen.
I wish that ECTV had covered the meeting. Seems just as, if not more, important than some of the other things they cover. |

Paul,
I didn't hear anything about Wood Waste coming up. I'm sure I would have if it did. The issue of trucks going to the sludge plant did though; nothing new, just the additional traffic concern.
As far as Wood Waste going to lower Broadway, the Urban Ring data I found yesterday caused me to have a new thought. For this access, they will need a right of way over the lower Broadway parcel for the modified access. If you look at the maps included in the document I referenced in my prior post, it appears that the access they are suggesting could go right thru the area that was proposed for relocating Wood Waste. Again, those plans are far from final but it look like Thibeault could profit big time from this, on the tax payer dime no less, and also improve the access to the remainder of the parcel. Maybe that helps to explain why, other than the sweetheart deal from Restaurant Depot, the plans to have something on a grander scale on the parkway were dropped and Wood Waste may actually remain where it is. Just a thought though. |

So they are modifying or trading one project for another, interesting. Thanks for the update Tetris. Whichever proposal they chose and whatever way you slice it, that road has been in desperate need of revamping for at least two decades. I bet the number of cars that have been swallowed up by Route 99 near one thousand. I cannot believe that any part of Mr T's plan would be conducive to the forward promoting Urban Ring's plans. Sure, the pant full of bull plans that they waved in front of us a few years ago including a marina and hotel but the "actual" plans whereby Wood Waste is relocated and nestled right on Boston Harbor's edge and simultaneously abutting the railroad tracks.... I cant even phathom that being considered. However, who can tell what will happen when mega bucks change hands. DEP, Boston Conservation Commission and the Harbor groups should all stand up and holler when those plans reach their eyes.... However, we all know how that goes so who truly knows what will happen.
Scary how the democratic process reverses itself in this city and what we all want is not what we get.
Just MY Humble Opinion....

Thanks Tetris I am going to take a look at the document/maps you have referenced.
I took a ride down to Wood Waste yesterday and it appears almost everything is gone from there. |

Of course nothings down there. Thibeault and the Mayor are complying at that location so they can make a compelling arguement to city government to relocate to south Everett. Funny thing is; they'll buy it. Pathetic! |
