I find it offensive to drive down Ferry Street and see flowers for sale all over the sidewalk. I thought it might change with a new administration, but who sits in the corner office apparently isn't the reason it's allowed.
Does anyone know why this man is allowed to operate from the sidewalk and sometimes a trailer parked on the street? Other local merchants have to pay rent for their store. Who's he paying?
If you are talking about the guy near the corner across from the old Hilltiff Pharmacy he happens to own the property he seels the flowers on. What is the problem with him selling flowers? Ferry Street is zoned for businesses right? He is not harming anyone and keeps the place neat and clean just like his property.
I have to agree with Sally. We've got a rising tide of crime sweeping the city...a shooting, stabbings and a bank robbery in the last month. I don't feel quite so strongly about a business selling flowers. There isn't a city around that doesn't have that going on.
I guess I need to stick to the important things like:
I heard the husband of one of Hanlon's employees was arrested at city hall the other day. I am wondering if this is the same guy whos wife is cheating on him? What a shame.
Sometimes "tongue in cheek" doesn't fly too well on a bulletin board. I've had the same trouble myself.
As for the parties involved - I think it's extraordinarily difficult for both families and I hope they find peace soon. The very public nature of this thing cannot be good for the kids.
