Two old guys in charge of the Rec Center who do not like kids.
Does that make sense to anybody?
Most people down there are kids.

| Louie, thanks for letting us know about this travesty. Talk about throwing the baby out with the bathwater. So applying that logic, "close the skate park because we don't want kids from out of town hanging there"...should we start closing restaurants in Everett Square to non-residents? How about funeral homes - restrict those to residents only? The ice rink? The pool? How about city jobs - residents only? Half the school department would have to find new jobs!! |

That all sounds good to me.
It would be like growing up in Everett again.
The Pup and I could get used to that.
The Pup is a little concerned about the baby comment......he enjoys a nice bath as well.

It's not just "kids hanging out." It's gangs of kids acting like thugs and intimidating other kids, and in some cases their parents, making threats to do them physical harm. That's the story that was being told at the meeting the other night.
Perhaps the problem is with supervision. I mean . . . they have to have lifeguards at the swimming pool, right? Does there need to be some sort of patrol of the skate park? The Police Station is right next door. |

| look I have kids just like most of you out here. they the directors want pepsi cola to come in and pay for a basketball court so you tell me NO PROBLEMS yeah right. that skate park was built with federal monies not the state or city monies so my question is how can the directors of the rec center demolish the skate park have pepsi cola come in and build basketball courts when there hasn't been a commission meeting on this who the hell do bowdrige and farnell think they are OH I FORGOT MARCHESE FRIENDS....My kids love the skate park this was federal money built for the community and surronding ones wake up will ya |

| I agree with you you Louie it was built with federal money it will be a hot topic and I see the post that you posted with the commissioners on the board so maybe people who have kids and want the skate park should start calling. as a matter of fact there is an article in todays independent re: the skate park and the article is referring to hearsay so show me some police reports bowdrige and farnell or better yet get of as directors we know you are marchese friends we the people are not stupid |

The stories about intimidating kids is bullcrap! Those kids might look a little scary at times but the majority of them are good kids who enjoy skating. Ragucci tried to get rid of the skatepark and the aldermen voted against it. Where else can these kids go? At least they are doing something positive and socializing with friends. Just because Bowdridges kids dont skate we need to take it down?? I think we should all make some calls to the councillors and aldermen and the rec center. The police reports are full of crap too. There have been more calls for groups of soccer players down Glendale harassing young girls. I have never seen a problem at the skate park.

| Ask for a public hearing on this. In the interim, get copies of the police reports for the skate park, BUT also all the other parks. You want to compare the skatepark to other parks. If the reports are the same, you can ask when they're going to tear down the other parks. |

How much confidence does it instill when the police have trouble with kids hanging around when it's right next door to the police station? How well do they manage "gangs" of kids when they are across town?
Besides, there's a bigger picture here. If the rumors are true about Marchese wanting to build a new rec center, think how much bigger it would be if the park was gone?

| Good point, Wicked! I think the crap about the kids being thugs is just that...I've been down there, I've seen these kids. Yeah, they dress funny with their baggy board pants, and jackets...but where will they go if they're not there? Boarders find placed to board...and it will be off the steps of churches and other public buildings. |

I used to think they were scary (boarders in general) but after my nephew, who is the sweetest kid in the world started dressing in grunge styles I never judged another kid again. Most of those kids at the skate park are good kids. Sure their are a few bad apples, there are on the football team too but they are not taking the stadium down anytime soon. These are the kids who did not fit in with other cliques and made their own! I think it is a good thing that some of those kids who might have been depressed loners now have a group of friends. I hope someone gives the kids and residents nearby a chance to talk about it coming down.

When you say "the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing"...that strikes a chord with the Pup. He knows how lucky he is and just can't understand why people have that problem.

| Michael - I wasn't picking on them...I was only remarking that this is how they dress. You should see what my kid looks like leaving the house sometimes! He's all into that look, too. But people do judge them, Michael. |
