I think the early hour had a lot to do with people being unable to attend.
Any names who will be running for Galluccio's seat?

I always thought the inauguration aired live. What happened to that? Who wants to watch after it’s said and done? |

When the inauguration is held outside of the City Hall chambers, ECTV doesn't have the capabilities to broadcast it live. Since it was held at the High School, it is conceivable that it could have been broadcast live on the School Department channel 15. They broadcast the School Committee meetings live from the library; would seems feasible that they could also broadcast live from the FFF Center for the Performing Arts. Why wasn't it done? Could be for a multitude of reasons. I still want to see it though. |

#13. I wish Peter Napolitano invited Wood Waste to the Common Council meeting instead of the Public Service Committee meeting. I'm sure there are many of us who are interested in what Wood Waste has to say about why the permanent structure hasn't been started yet.
#15. This should be interesting. I know people in my neighborhood are not happy with Capital Waste.
#17. I think money could be better spent elsewhere.
#20. Marcus being Marcus....kissing butt! Does anyone really believe the taxpayers will be happy with this? There is a very real possibility of layoffs coming. How can "ANY" (including the mayor) pay raises be justified? Where is Marcus's head?

I’m not knocking donations but it seems like there are so many lately.
Item 12 - I agree with Leo bringing up the LNG issue, after all, LNG is in Everett. It’s been a concern for quite some time and I’m not sure if Leo is referring to the Yemen shipment or LNG all together.
If it’s about the Yemen shipment, I do *not * think that LNG will explode however, the country of Yemen has had two terrorist get on planes and both failed attempts to blow them up in this country. Yemen claims to have “hundreds” of terrorist…..I think it’s more like “thousands.” They will look at anyway just to get over here. If it’s about that, it’s a little late to be referring out. They should just work together with Boston and Mayor Menino.
Item 13 – I too do not know why a representative from Wood Waste is asked to appear at a Public Service Committee meeting and not a City Council meeting for everyone to know. It’s been 10 months since the deadline came and went, according to the final consent agreement:
8) No later than March 13, 2009, Wood Waste agrees that it will submit the necessary plans of the new facility apply to the City for required approvals of the Boston Street/Route 16 Facility modifications for an enclosed facility to be constructed.
Although the enclosure is important, I think there are a lot of questions that need answers and not just the enclosure. Thibeault must have an idea where he is going to ship the waste out once the landfill is closed and that's on target to close in the spring. I’ve gone by Wood Waste and although those mountains have gone down, waste is still outside so what I really want to know is, what happened to this:
Dear Mr. Thibeault;
This office conducted an inspection of your property and you are in violation of the City of Everett Zoning Ordinance Section 21 Industrial Limited District (a) Uses. Section 5. “Storage of goods in containers where all storage is contained within the building, not including storage of any raw or natural materials”.
You are hereby ordered to remove all outdoor storage within 30 days.
Failure to do so will result in daily fines for all violations per City of Everett Zoning Ordinance Section 13 Violations and Penalties. “Whoever shall violate any provision of this ordinance shall, for each offense, and for each and every day that such offense continues, shall be subject to a fine of not more than twenty dollars ($20.00)
James Sheehan Inspector of Buildings Cc: Mayor’s Office, B.O.H., City Solicitor, Code Enforcement, Police Department, and Fire Prevention
________________________________________
Item 14 – Why just text messages?? I say no cell phones at all while driving in Everett. Who’s going to admit they were texting? We have a lot of teens (and adults) that think they are infallible.
Item 20 – We all hear about the local aid cuts coming down the pike. Someone has to pick up the tab for that, and that’s the taxpayer. So now, at this time, we are looking at a raise for the mayor?? Give me a freaken break! That’s not going to go over well with the people in the city….especially while he cruises around in his Mercedes Benz and Lincoln Navigator.

10. While I now understand why this transfer is necessary, something about it still bothers me. It would seem to me that if you exceed a budgeted line item in one fiscal year and the same line item is level-funded (or less) in the next year's budget, it would make sense to review these line items to see if they need to be adjusted before you start spending free cash on other items. Maybe the Charter Commission could consider something like this in the budget section of the charter that they have been told by the state needs to be included in a revised charter.
12. While I agree with the intention of this piece, there is no way that Everett is equipped to take the lead role in such an effort. The city certainly needs to play its part though. In the video that Tails provided, I didn't recognize anyone from Everett in the one crowd shot. But to be fair, it was only one shot, the video was small and grainy and may have not showed all of the attendees. Let's hope that the city was well represented at this meeting and will be at any future meetings of this type.
13. I agree that I'd rather see Wood Waste come to a televised meeting but I'll take whatever we can get. It appears at least some committee meeting minutes are now getting posted on the city web site so we get at least some idea of what goes on that those meetings if we are unable to attend. Not the ideal answer bur again, better than nothing. BTW, does anybody know anything about a fire down at Wood Waste in the last few weeks?
14. It’s a shame that local communities have had to take up the texting while driving issue. It should be addressed at the state level. Exactly what does the state legislature do? This piece won’t go anywhere in its present form though; it’s going to have to be referred to R & O or the City Solicitor so that some actual legislation can be put together. I don't have any problems making it for all hand-held cell phone usage either.
15. Exactly what types of issues are people having with Capital? Is the problem with Capital itself (i.e., how they do their job) or with how they interpret the city’s very confusing trash rules. As I recall, the issue of resolving the confusion over these rules was tabled last fall because it was unlikely that the issue could be resolved before the end of legislative term. Perhaps resurrecting that effort is the direction that this piece should be heading in.
16. Now playing the part of Wayne Matewsky, Sergio Cornelio. I hope that he has better luck with getting the DCR to do anything.
17. Why should the "Everett Springs" area be singled out for a sign? Why not other areas of the city, like “The Village” for example? All or none, I'd say. But I agree with Massdee; the money could be better spent somewhere else.
18. I think that Councilor Cornelio did a very good job of spelling out exactly what he wanted in this piece; other councilors and aldermen could take a lesson from this. I guess the councilors can change their rules to whatever they like; but personally, I'd rather not see this change. It's likely that the aldermen wouldn't change their rules to match since the City Clerk is also the board's clerk. One set of rules is just easier for a simpleton like me to remember.
19. I'm not sure why this piece is on the agenda. While there's nothing wrong with its intention, this doesn't seem to be the most effective way to communicate with the homeowners that may not be in compliance. If the desire is to get some reminder included in a mailing (tax or water bill) to each home, good luck; those requests never seem to work out.
20. I agree that the timing of this piece couldn't be worse. But that said, I think that this is an issue that probably needs to be addressed in the near future. It's too bad that it's unlikely that the mayor's salary could be tied to some performance based metrics. My biggest fear in raising the mayor's salary though is that it will open the door to raising the salaries of their underlings. The city has seen enough of that in the past few years; it can't continue. |

I think it's a terrible time to be bringing up a raise for the mayor but if it's going to be brought up............the mayors salary should be based on his/her level of education. |

I think Vancampen's idea that a Mayor's salary be based on his education was really worth giving consideration to. I could support that one.
