Why would you send the free white goods stickers out with the tax bills ?
Wouldn't you wait for the person/people to actually pay the bill before giving them the stickers ?
Also,I can see people who have no need for the stickers selling them or giving them to people from other cities etc. |

4. I think that the Leader-Herald will be disappointed that two of their three issues with this piece didn't get addressed tonight. I don't think that anyone really wants to talk about either of those issues.
5. Is it really necessary to stand in support of a piece that you've already really passed? It was only before them again to change the source of the funds.
7. I guess we'll never know for sure why the Mayor's raise was referred back to sponsor.
8. Even though committee meetings are now televised and committee reports are available on-line at some point, is it really a problem to spend a few seconds to let the portion of the public that only watch the Monday meetings know why items are disposed in the manner that they are?
9. Wasn't this piece sent to the Mayor for a response? Where was that? I think that not receiving one says something. I'm not sure what the purpose of sending it to committee was at this point. If they were somehow able to get this passed, they've probably missed the window of opportunity to get it included the next tax bill anyways.
10. I guess that persistence sometimes does pay off. I wondered where the new signs installed at Sweetser Circle came from. I find them a little ironic though since the sidewalks down there are in such bad shape that you take your life hands trying to use them.
11. It was probably the right thing to amend the piece so that it is clear that this ordinance apples only to city sponsored events. But I thought that this piece got tabled two weeks ago to get an answer on an insurance question? What happened to that? Maybe it wasn't addressed because the councilor who made that motion wasn't in the chamber when the piece got discussed. We'll get into that later. The Leader-Herald may be disappointed that its issue with this piece got ignored too. But at least this one isn't done yet. Because it was amended, the BOA will have to take it up again next week.
12. So we may know what the problem is and that it will require an expensive fix. But we don't know who is responsible for it. These are the kinds of issues that need to stay on the radar so that when an opportunity to perhaps fix them comes along, they are not forgotten.
13. Well, I guess the answer is “no progress”? It's no surprise that the piece got referred to the next meeting. But doesn't Councilor Sierra get it that if he really wants an answer, he's going to have to ask for the Mayor to appear on the piece?.
14. Well, I have to eat some crow because they reported that they are actually attempting to do some enforcement on this issue. But after hearing the discussion, one has to wonder why if it flies in the face of federal law. I think that sending this piece to committee to discuss what they should actually doing was a good idea.
15. Is it just me or does it seem like every time that Councilor Miller has an item on the worksheet, she almost always has to amend it? Sort of defeats some of the purpose of the worksheet.
I've said it before but I'll say it again. I don't think that's it's a good idea to have other city meeting scheduled to happen at the same time as the BOA and CC meetings. The Ward 6 delegation missed almost the entire meeting tonight because there was a Boards of Appeals meeting tonight to discuss the Waters Ave project. I don't blame them for going but they just can't be at two meetings at once.
I think that Council President DiFlorio is still learning the ins and outs of her position; but, I think that there is no question that she runs a better meeting when she not competing with Councilor Billy Cardello to do so. |

I agree about item five. It was not necessary to bring up a tragedy on an item that passed........... and was only there for an amendment. No one was delaying anything.
I also think it's ironic that the mayor can always find the time to attend common council meetings but can never be there for BOA meetings.......and it's those meetings that he's requested to attend and does not give the courtesy of sending his regrets to the BOA. I meant to say that the last BOA meeting. I thought that was childish behavior and I'm not in favor of using cell phones in the chambers whether it's talking or texting. |

Is anyone else getting annoyed with Mr Zaniboni using his cell phone while he is at the podium? I feel all electronic devices should be shut off while in the Council Chamber.
And now Sergio is texting during the meeting.
Just my opinion but I agree with the CC on their decision on the old high school. |

I think there should be an ordinance or at the very least…a sign. NO CELL PHONES or TEXTING in Chambers.
This is the second meeting I thought was rude and inappropriate with the cell phone use and text messages. Who was Sergio texting…….the missing mayor??
Thank goodness enough of them had the common sense not to give the administration a blank check for the old high school. Jill contradicted herself a few times and with the rumors going around about “one” of the interested parties (one of which already made millions off the city) was enough to say it’s nothing but trouble for ward five.
I think Billy Cardello thinks his contractor buddies are getting the building at a bargain price…….but that will never happen. He’s blocked every potential sale but now that his buddies are involed…..it’s a must??? Who does he think he’s kidding??
I can’t believe this even came forward without a neighborhood meeting. What a slap in the face to the ward five residents in the area.

Just curious….FTP Productions, LLC (Which I am assuming this is the filming crew that was in Everett) since the movie - Richard Hatem Project – was being filmed here.
Why are they making a $10,000.00 donation to the beautification fund? Did they “specially” request the beautification fund or did they give money to the city for them to see fit where to appropriate the funds?

I thought we already had a fund for fire victims in the city? I remember the Dellisola's from NH in the newspapers that were given $1200.00 from that fund. Is that fund gone? |

I have a question about the donations. Can they be applied anywhere or just certain areas? I only ask because if they could be applied to the underfunded pension, it would help it to get paid off sooner. I know it would only make a very small dent but it couldn't hurt. |

The President made an announcement that she does not want cell phones or text messaging during the meetings.
Cell phone’s going off in the chambers is just rude and what about plain old common courtesy? You have a commitment to work the meeting and those phones should be on silence. Family emergency is the only exception.
Council members should be paying attention to important public matters instead of being hunched over on their cell phones. That time is dedicated to the public, not to ask the mayor (or whoever) a question.
If a council member gets a message and it’s urgent city business, they should disclose that immediately. I say that because there was a childish incident about a month ago that they mayor was requested to appear for weeks and never shows up. Then, when an alderman shows his frustration for being kept out of the loop as to where the mayor was, another alderman goes and sends him “text messages” that he’s being “talked about” and once again, his Honah the Mayha barrels up there like a bat out of hell all off topic just to ramble. Not good use from what I’ve seen.

18. C0078-10 Resolution/s/Councilors Daniel J. Napolitano, Sal DiDomenico and Kenneth Giannelli That over three hundred workers at the Shaw’s distribution center in Methuen, Massachusetts have been on strike for six weeks and lost their health benefits on April 1 due to a collapse in negotiations at the bargaining table. In these difficult economic times, loss of pay and health benefits puts a particularly immense strain on working families that are already struggling under the weight of rising health care costs. The Everett City Council encourages both parties to return to the bargaining table and arrive at a fair and reasonable contract in an expedient manner.
