Lynda,
I think most participants are happy to welcome new people to the community board. I do think, however, that the spate of new arrivals seem more concerned with running the spin game and managing the fall out of the Rec Center scandal than anything else. So preach all you want about the city's stats; the fact remains that the majority of your posts, and indeed - your very first post, was a semi-eloquent rendering of Mr. Bowdridge's career and commitment to the children of Everett. It reeks of self-serving. Honestly, I thought you had to be either Bill or his wife. |

Lynda, I'm sorry to say, it's not bull. I've spoken with people closely involved with the Recreation Commission, and I'm afraid it's true. It's disappointing, to be sure, and sad, because it did seem that Mr. Bowdridge wanted to run a good program for the kids. And if he was succeeding in that area, it doesn't negate what happened in terms of the money being missing.
What I'd like to know is . . . what happened to the policy of not accepting cash over a certain amount ($25, I think) that was instituted after the theft was discovered in the Building Department last year? |

Of course you don't want to discuss the information that Citizen Kane is giving you - and that's okay. But you appear to have an agenda, and people called you on it. If you want to know why people are responding to you the way they are - this is why. It has nothing to be with being "new" and everything to do with trying to engage in revisionist history. |

Sorry, Lynda, but you can't manipulate the way people choose to respond to the postings you place here. You cannot direct the manner in which people choose to engage in conversation. |

But as long as you want to talk about numbers, Lynda, how about trying this number on for size. The published population of the state of Massachusetts is 6,349,097 people; the circulation of the Boston Herald is 203,000, or 3.1% of the total population. Pretty close to the numbers you posted for participation in this message board. So roughly the same number of people, on a percentage basis, participate in this forum as read one of the two major Boston newspapers in Massachusetts.
I'll grant you . . . the percentage for the Boston Globe is 6%, but that's hardly a rousing number, either.
It isn't the numbers that matter; it's what people bring to it (or don't bring to it), and it's about participating in some way. It doesn't diminish those who participate simply because there's not a 75% rate of return.

Lynda you sounds as though you could not enjoy the rec center in the past. My children have enjoyed the programs there for years it had nothing to do with Bill Bowdridge. The rec has always had programs run by great people. Bill ran the building not all of the activities. I only know the man by sight since he coached my son in football years ago. I see his wife at school dropping off her kids. I am sure they are great people. The truth is something went on and as long as you stay here and act do defensive of him the subject will never die. I am not looking for him to get punished anymore than he already apparently has. I just will not sit here and listen to you tell us nothing happened. I happen to KNOW differently.

It was a comparison of the circulation percentage of both papers based on the population in Massachusetts, as your number was a percentage of people who take part in this blog was based on the population in the city of Everett. I simply expanded your example, Lynda.
And again . . . you cannot direct the manner in which people choose to participate in this blog. We're blog participants, not your children. |

The word, Lynda, is sense, not sence. Since you're so fond of pointing out other people's spelling errors . . .
And yes, there is a bit of a difference between 34 and 203,000; the same as there is a difference between 38,037 people (what you claim to be Everett's population) and 6,349,097 (what I quoted as the published population for Massachusetts). |

Oh, the beautiful thing is that we don't have to stop just because "Lynda" says so. Let's just keep on writing about it. Has anyone seen the Advocate today? Any "news" about the money missing from the rec center? |

Nice attitude, Home. Who the hell is Jean?
To answer the question, Court, I didn't see anything in the Advocate about the problems at the Rec Center.
And by the way, Home, the Advocate is not delivered, and not everyone can get out -- or as you so delicately put it -- get off their asses -- to seek one out.

Oh my - aren't we surly, Home? Just when I thought we were getting to be such good friends....
Thank you, Citizen, for the update. Perhaps Mr. Mitchell is taking a vacation from his journalistic endeavors. You know what I was anxious about? The equipment that was sold off not long after Mr. Bowdridge took over operations at the Rec. I heard that it was a great shape, but we suddenly needed new equipment.
Actually, Home must have clicked on my profile and found my "name," - Jean Anderson.
