So.....

The School Committe cannot vote against whatever Freddie wants because a family member will be fired or demoted, or just have life made miserable for them.

What a horrible situation.

None who has family working in the schools should be on the school committee.

Apparently this is not an ethics violation, or has anyone checked?

It's not, unless they vote on matters of salary, and I'm not sure that they do. I think that's all left up to the Superintendent. I think the rule on voting on financial matters is that it's a conflict of interest if the member realizes some sort of benefit from it. I would imagine voting on a spouse's salary would constitute realizing a benefit, but that's just me. Again, I'm not sure how that works. The superintendent puts the budget together, and the city council votes on the budget. Does anyone know if the school committee has to vote to approve it before it gets to the city council?
