I urge any and all residents who are interested in learning more about preparing themselves for the future to attend these very informative classes. I also want to remind everyone of the monthly Crime Prevention Meetings held at the Police Station the third Tuesday of each month. This is where your questions will be answered regarding the problems in our city. Next regular meeting will be held February 20th. Looking for a large attendance since these blogs have brought up many questions of our Police Force.
Please read the following:

EVERETT POLICE DEPARTMENT
CRIME PREVENTION
Public Announcement

The Everett Police Department Crime Prevention program would like to announce a new Anti-Terrorism Awareness Community Training Program for citizens. The purpose of this training program is to provide you the citizen, as our first line of defense, with the knowledge and tools needed to help keep you and your community safe. Introducing:
Metro-Boston Homeland Security Region's "P3"
Homeland Security Community Awareness Training Program.

Prevent – Protect - Prepare

This three-module course provides participants with:
1) An Introduction to Terrorism
2) Recognizing and Reporting Suspicious Activity
3) Personal Preparedness and Protection
“P3” emphasizes the important role of a citizen in preventing terrorism. We use the program to teach citizens how to recognize suspicious activity based upon behaviors, not by race, gender, religion, or ethnicity. You will learn the definition of terrorism, discuss past terrorism incidents, and learn about terrorist precursor activities. There will be brief discussion on WMD’s (Weapons of Mass Destruction). We will show you different types of suspicious activity and how to report your suspicions to the police. We will also provide information on how to prepare your family for natural and man-made disasters. The course will be taught in two sessions of approximately 75-100 minutes each. Upon completion of the two sessions, each student will receive a certificate of completion. All participants must pre-register by contacting Sgt.Larry Jedrey @ 617-394-2356 or by emailing larry.jedrey@ci.everett.ma.us. Please leave your name, contact number, and the best time to contact you. There will be a class maximum of 30 students.

All classes will be held at the Police Station (45 Elm St) in the second floor training room.

Session #1 – Tuesday February 6, 2007 at 7:30pm
Session #2 – Tuesday February 13, 2007 at 7:30pm

All registrations must be received by Friday February 2, 2007 at 7:00pm

This is great, Joanne, thank you.

Please let us know when the EPD holds a meeting about domestic crime, drugs and gangs, particularly at the high school. It's getting bad out here.

Well at least it made the paper this week. It is obvious from reading the Independent that they are reading here. I have to praise Mr. Resneck this week for at least putting something in there even though the police and FFF are being tight lipped about it. Many more parents will be aware that there is a problem at the high school. I wish we could print the link to this blog in the paper so more parents could share information. It appears we are making an impact.

Sally. I just got and quickly looked through the paper.
Do you realize that NOTHING more than what was written in this blog was in it about the series of events that occurred over the last week. You should have written that article. They knew nothing more than what YOU have made us aware of.
I would like to personally Thank you for keeping us Parents informed.

Yes I realized they must have found their information here. No thanks necessary. We are all part of a group sharing information. I am thrilled that they actually printed something so that other parents can see it. Hopefully it will make a difference.

Oh, the pride of Chelsea, and king of all he surveys in Revere - Josh Resnek, king of armchair journalists is NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHING RESEMBLING INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALISM. He should have been all over these stories. As long as Quigley keeps paying for for doing nothing....that's all he's going to do.

If there is an outbreak of whooping cough at EHS, wouldn't it be prudent of them to be running a health alert on our community channels? Is it very contagious? Lynda, thanks for making me aware.

massdee. One would hope they would but, it appears that they are not informing us. I am not sure about if it is contagious or not but, I would assume so, I do know that OUR children have been vaccinated against it.
The children's vaccine is part of a routine series of childhood immunizations called diphtheria-tetanus-acellular pertussis (DTaP) that is strongly recommended by the National Immunization Program at the CDC. It is administered in five doses, given at 2, 4, 6, and 15 to 18 months of age, and between 4 and 6 years. All five doses are recommended for maximum protection. And we have to bring in every year our child's immunization records to their schools.

So once again I strongly believe that it is brought over from another country and maybe the outbreak is that of those children who have been brought here and DO NOT have to follow our rules in the US

From "The Mirror" I was not able to attend the school committee meeting and have heard nothing about a lockout. Anyone have any information. I just got a text message from my kid at the high school. Seems there are people up there working on the doors!!! Only the interior doors as far as they know but I am hoping all the exterior doors will have the locks fixed also.
Say what you want but all of our "ranting" here is working

Lynda, another problem is that when some diseases are brought in from another country they are a new strain and the immunizations that our kids have had become ineffective. I agree with you, that is why we are seeing a rise in illnesses we haven't really heard about in years. They sneak in the country illegally and bring their disease with them.
