Can someone tell me why we are paying about 400,000 for code enforcement when 90% of all the other cities and towns use the board of health to do the same thing with less people? And has anyone seen the code enforcement around our city, other than siting in there office with there feet on there desk's?Better yet have they given out or even collected enough fine's to cover at least one persons salary? Then theres the parking enforcement why not do like several other city and towns and contract outside the city to give out parking tickets and pay them on a % per ticket saving our city salary and benefits?Instead of paying 300 to 400,000 per year we would be collecting that kind of money for the tax base! And then theres all the other waste that makes no sense like city hall Bob I know he's the Mayor friend but I don't get paid to sleep at home so why should we pay for someone to sleep at work? And then there's all the "consulting workers" that the city hire's! Has anyone ever seen one of these consutlants or even spoken to one? I don't think so!These are questions that our elected officials should be asking and receiving answers to before the budget hearings without any back talk!

Joey - we're paying for code enforcement because the Walking Eagle (remember, a bird so full of sh** that it can't fly) had decided that campaign promises are what you make to get elected, and not what you follow. Hiring freeze? Hah! He has all but set up an employment agency with an affirmative action plan to hire people who would otherwise be unemployable. That's right - because no one else in their right minds would hire them. To wit: city hall Bob.

You're right - city government needs to take action. It is an election season; we can only hope.

There's an employee who's not in the budget for the same reason there was money budgeted for positions walking eagle & his minions said they weren't going to fill. Because that's the way JANICE wanted it. They can then play around & when they add positions, tell people we have the money in our "true" budget! For some reason, our elected officials either don't have the brass, or the brains (or both) to force them to tow the mark, they just grandstand and then approve everything. They should all be taken out back & shot.

I do have a question. Does the new overnight parking ordinance have a provision that civilians, rather than police, may write tickets and enforce the ordinance? Ordinances are usually specific regarding enforcement.

The ordinance regulating issuance of fees (chapter 1, section 8) refers only to an enforcement agent, so that would, I assume, be whomever the city appoints. For instance, "meter maids" are not police officers, they are the "enforcement agents." I imagine this new scam of a civilian overnight patrol falls under the same category.

I would still like to know how they justify a) not posting or advertising for these 7 positions and b) how they justify hiring people outside of the city when Everett residents have not been given the full courtesy of being able to apply. More political patronage? Nooooo . . . that can't be . . . Hanlon promised no political patronage.

I'll answer it I might be wrong but someone can correct me

at the council meeting wasn't it Jim Henderson who said " we don't need to come in front of you this is an emergency matter" we can do what we please people knew about this when we discussed it earlier in the months ahead and I got resumes and they came in to fill out applications. We don't have to advertise everytime. Now I could be wrong but it was somewhere along these lines.

guess who starts tonite

simonelli, I don't know if its the woman who sells r.e. or her husband along with a retired malden officer.
