The speculation has already started about who will run for the Everett seat in the General Court in 2006. I realize the popular opinion is that Stat Smith is a lock to take the seat based on his 2004 run that saw him miss it by a mere 37 votes. I believe this field will be even more crowded than it was in 1990 when Ed Connolly first won the seat. From David Ragucci, Cathi Gover, Robert VanCampen, Carlo Demaria and many more. The most interesting name to come up in the last couple of weeks is Frank Nuzzo. My money is on outgoing Mayor David Ragucci if he decides to throw his hat in the ring, if he does not than i am going with Frank Nuzzo.

Frank Nuzzo is a lackluster candidate. He did get over 5000 votes when he ran unopposed.
Can't figure why. He does not show much of a backbone on the Board.

We are total political junkies to be writing about this on Thanksgiving Eve! So....my money's on Stat; he's run city wide a number of times and he knows how to get it done. I don't think Ragucci is in the race. Unlikely that Frank will jump in, as he's got to wrap up his pension at his company. Once he retires, all bets are off. As for the rest....backbenchers.

Stat will have Barrios' support. That will count for a lot no matter who else is running.

The field will depend on whether Ed runs for re-election. He says he's running.

Ed will leave his seat in a wooden box. Love the guy, but his best chance now would be to name a "successor". If he says van camp is the guy to support, then we get a good rep, albeit a phony and arrogant one. AND, we should get an articulate ward 5 ald. in Gover. In a way it's win/win. Otherwise, the voters, who will likely pick Ed, will end up with the runner-up if something should happen to Ed.

Ed should not have run last time. What did he prove? He hasn't been able to drive for years and he can barely walk. He phonied up the act to beat Smith.
He's been good to Everett, but time to let go and retire. I'm sure he's eligible for some juicy retirement package from the State.
I'd like to see his attendance record since his re-election.
