Bobby, my kid has gone for a least a week for the past few years. I'm happy with it and you can't beat the price. Typically they meet at the Keverian have breakfast, walk down to the pool, have lunch a Glendale with other activities throughout the day. They do community service like washing fire trucks and every Friday they have a field trip (one example from last year was a trip to Georges Island).
I did not relaize they now held it at the Keverian. That is great since it is air conditioned there. I used to feel bad for the kids in the rec all day long.
I'm surprised Hanlon hasn't eliminated the program just to spite David. I guess "Walking Eagle Running Scared" feels it is a good alternative for the kids during the summer.
One of the few things that Hanlon hasn't trashed that David has done for City.
I received a letter last week confirming the two weeks I signed my son up for. I'm confident that this program will not be effected. They must have their own budget and I wouldn't be surprised if they get some kind of help or reimbursement from the state or the federal government. It truly is a great program and my son loved it. A lot of his friends go there. He didn't like the pool though. I think because it was over his head and he was unsure of swimming without a jacket. But who knows maybe this year he will like it more in the pool.
My daughter just completed a two week span at the City Works Camp program and she had a great time and made some good friends. The councilors were very good and the woman (I think she runs the whole program) Stacy Cotto was wonderful. Always visible and watching over the going on there. I was impressed and look forward to next summer as does she.
My son had a great time!!! He finally tried the pool....He stayed in the shallow end as does most of the kids he knows. There ended up being a lot of his friends there as well. And the counselors and Stacy and the Nurses all do such a great job to make this such a great experience for our kids. I will be sending him again next year for two weeks. Thank You CITYWORKS AND EVERYONE INVOLVED TO KEEP THIS PROGRAM!!!
Alittle confused here. Page 5 of the Independent Newspaper has a ad to re-elect Mayor Hanlon. In the first caption on Education is a picture of him with a bunch of children from the City Works Program. I am confused... wasn't it Ragucci who put that program together? Isn't it Hanlon that bashes Ragucci non stop? Now he is taking credit for what he has achieved? Uh What?
Off base? How is that Einstein? He fought whom for the program to remain? I didn't write anything here in that post I didn't see in todays paper. Plain and simple.
