I JUST READ THE EVERETT ADVOCATE AND NOTICE TOWARD THE BACK PAGE THAT BENVENUTI'S IS CLOSING AND TRANFERING THEIR LICENSE TO A BUFFET AND GRILLE PLACE. HOW SAD I FOUND THIS ESTABLISHMENT TO BEST EVERETT HAD TO OFFER FOR ITALIAN FOOD.
THEY WILL BE MISSED

Carmen Romano talked his sister into opening that place. I'm surprised they lasted this long. They should have been in a more upscale city and neighborhood.
I'm sure Carmen's sister lost every last penny of her own money.
What a shame.

Speaking of restaurants, when I drove by Joe Hickey's place today, I noticed a new awning (not quite Crimsom Tide Red) with a new name on it. Did he sell the place or just change the concept? |

Joe Hickey's palce was sold from what I hear. It is apparently a Mexican place now. I feel bad about Benvenuti's. They had great food, just in the wrong place. That is a tough business to succeed in.

You're right about it being a tough business Sally. I also enjoyed their food, but never expected they'd last this long. I always thought the location left a lot to be desired and was never comfortable with the closeness of the tables. No place for a private conversation, but a great place to meet old friends! |

Joe Hickey is another one who invested all his savings into a restaurant in Everett. Joe was out of work at the time as well.
He promised the best quality of food and he delivered the same.
But...
His prices were out of reach of the customers of Everett.
Again, the right concept, but the wrong city.

But there was a seafood restaurant there before him for years.

The previous restaurant "Sea Tern" kept the prices lower and always did a steady stream of business.

Emile - you've got it exactly right. The Sea Tern was lower cost, mostly all fried food. Mr. Hickey modified the restaurant and took the menu into a healthier place - but the cost was too prohibitive for your average Everett resident, who is also not the same "resident" that he/she was five years ago. We have a new culture here that isn't exactly the scallops, clams and haddock eater. |

How true. The taxes and leadership here are'nt the only things driviing people awy from Everett. The "new culture" here that slaps a certain foreign nations flags up everywhere in sight has been cited as a reason for the exodus of many. If they liked it so much there they probably should have stayed. Nothing against these people per se, but they should assimilate to our culture if they want to be here instead of forcing theirs on us. Sorry, the immigration debate is a little off topic here. |

I am shocked that this restraunt is closing or changing hands. I love this place this is the best the city had to offer. As far as the sea tern it's awing says FESTIVAL I like to know how they got an awing without going before the board of alderman?
Well, Joe how did they get one aren't you in charge of this piece of business for the city. Also, why is it that Steven Siminelli's truck is always park in city hall parking lot? Oh let me guess, he works up the high school, and there is no parking on linden street due to street cleaning. Way to go this wonderful city we live in. |

Feel free to park in the lot @ city hall. There's nothing that says you can't park there too. |

From where do they tow the cars? If it's the Whittier School parking lot, it's because the understanding is that the residents have to have their cars out of there by 7:00 a.m. because the kids are starting to come to school shortly after that.

I assure you, they are not towing from the city hall parking lot in the mornings. There may be some restrictions in that lot relative to overnight parking, but there are many people parking there during the day that are not working, or doing business, in city hall.
But what has this got to do with Benvenuti closing? |
