I WAS WATCHING THE MEETING LAST NIGHT WHERE BILLY CARDELLO GOT UP AND MADE A STATEMENT ON THE SPEEDING OF WEBSTER ST AND ELLSWORTH STREET. I AM THE MAN HE WAS TALKING ABOUT. I HAVE BEEN FOR THE LAST MONTH LEAVING VOICE MAIL MESSAGE FOR SGT. BOVA WHO AS OF THIS DATE HAS NOT RETURN ANY OF MY PHONE CALLS. SO YESTERDAY I WENT TO THE POLICE STATION TO SEE IF I COULD MEET WITH SGT BOVA AND OF COURSE LIKE IN THE PAST HE WAS NOT THERE.

WHY ARE WE PAYING THIS MAN?
WHY DOES HE NOT RETURN PHONE CALLS?
AND LAST WHY WAS SGT STRONG REMOVED FROM THE TRAFFIC DEPT.

I MY OPINION WHEN YOU HAVE SOMEONE WHO HAS DONE A GREAT JOB IN THE PAST WHY SCREW IT UP AND AS THEY DID

THEY SCREWED IT UP. I THINK SGT BOVA SHOULD LIVE ON WEBSTER ST AND ELLSWORTH STREET FOR ONE WEEK AND SEE WHAT WE AS NEIGHBORS ARE GOING THROUGH..

THANK YOU BILL CARDELLO, LORRIE BRUNO, ROSA DIFLORIO FOR BRING THIS UP LAST NITE. WE ALL KNOW SOMETHING WILL BE DONE BUT, WEBSTER ST NEEDS TO BE A ONE WAY OR ONE SIDED PARKING AND THE MAYOR SHOULD CLOSED THE PARKING LOT ON THE WEEKENDS NEITHER ONE HAS TO DEAL WITH THE LOUD NOISE OR PARKING PROBLEMS

I don't know about the speeding since I live elsewhere in the city but I'm all for changing Webster to one way or one sided parking! When you consider that the CC and BOA are there regularly, wouldn't you think they'd notice the difficulty driving up/down it? When I have to park on the street, I make sure I push my side mirror in and worry that I'll be side swiped since it's such a tight fit.

You can pass all the laws you want, but if they do not get enforced it is a waste of time. The answer to the question "What's wrong with this city" is, LAW ENFORCEMENT or lack of it. That's why the city has become what it is, too many laws have not been enforced for too many years.

makemelaugh, you do just that. Webster street was changed to a one way for a period of time and apparently it did'nt work out to the liking of the politicians or residents there because it was changed back. Speeding ? On a Dead End Street?(Ellsworth Street) I doubt it makemelaugh. And if it's so tight going down Webster Sreet with two sided parking then how on earth could you speed there? Whats wrong with this city is too many people complaining all the time about things such as this that are pure foolishness. There are legitimate issues to be discussed. This is not one.

Speeding, running stop signs and running lights are a problem on most every street in the city. Enforcement is a problem but the cops can't be everywhere at all times. I agree Webster Street is one of the hardest streets to navigate. It should be a one way, letting onto Broadway. People probably didn't care for it due to having to approach the city hall parking lot from the other direction. It is a safety issue up there.

It is not foolishness to expect the laws to be enforced. Middleman inform me as to what are the "legitimate" issues. I welcome being enlightened by you.

Middle-man - I happen to be with Donice on this one. makemelaugh has raised a legitimate issue - Webster Street has always been a mess and continues to be one. It really should be a one-way, but if the city politicos want a two-way - well, then they better have the street religiously enforced. It's amazing that we haven't lost one of the elderly who live in those apartments.

Since I feel like I'm taking my life in my hands when I drive down Webster St, I think it's pretty important too!

Let me say that I also would like to see Webster Street turned into a one way street to alleviate the gridlock on that street. C'mon now Court, if there is gridlock there is'nt speeding. And speeding on a dead end street with six houses on it. You'd need a high end Porsche my friend. Seems to be a lot of police bashing here. I frequent that area and there are no speeding vehicles there. Also as long as Webster street is a two way street with parking allowed on both sides what kind of enforcement would you like to see? As it stands there is nothing the police can do there. Let the politicians change the street to a one way. That's the only thing in these posts with any merit.

I also remember something in the Boston Globe a couple of years back regarding the number of moving violations issued by the various police departments in this area. The Everett police issued more violations than almost all of the surrounding communities even though we have much fewer miles of roadway, smaller populations and many less registered vehicles than Somerville, Revere, Malden, Medford etc. If they increase the enforcement even more people like makemelaugh and Donice will complain about a police state LOL. The number of parking tickets excluding those written by meter and overnight parking people are also up the last couple of years according to the parking clerk. The police do have many other functions besides parking tickets and trying to locate makemelaughs non-existent speeding cars on dead ends.

Middleman. Do you actually live in Everett or do you just have business or work in Everett during the day. No one should have to be subjected to the noise that the people on Webster St are subjected to. Just because you are lucky enough to live somewhere that you can be undisturbed in your home, you should not ridicule people who are experiencing loud music, race car mufflers and yelling instead of talking until midnight. If you provide me with your address I'll be glad to bring a few people to sit in front of your house and make noise for a couple of hours. I'm sure you won't call the police because you believe they have more important things to do.

Sally, if you are facing City Hall on Broadway, it is the street to the right, the one that the City Hall parking lot is off of.

Right next to city hall Sally. The police have been called there on numerous occasions if you listen to your scanner. There never seems to be any major noise problem in the area when they arrive. Hmmm. Perhaps some just have a problem with the certain group that has moved into the old Knights of Columbus building. Don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of foreign flags everywhere around the city either but that does'nt mean they are bad people or bad neighbors. Why close the city hall parking lot off? Would'nt that just make the parking problem in that area all the worse? And I'm not ridiculing anyone Donice. I just don't believe there is a major problem there. It's only my opinion. I'm entitled to mine and you're entitled to yours, no judgements here.

I have to say when the Brazillian churches have services until after midnight, there is lots of noise when they are leaving. Even at my house if we have the window open we hear people walking by. Imagine 100's of people.

No disrespect but hearing people walk by in a city setting does'nt sound like that big a deal to me. I live close to a park and can hear noise coming from there every so often late at night. It does'nt bother me. Guess I'm a sound sleeper. You'll never be happy in the city if you want to be able to hear a pin drop. If it starts to bother me then that's when I'll make the move out to the suburbs. That's if the movers and shakers at city hall don't drive us all away first.
