That would/will be interesting. I think it will come down to Carlo and Joe. My Mom who is in the older bracket seems to think that Hanlon will not loss the primary. Time will tell. As far as who will go where... I simply don't know! I know where MY vote will NOT go.

I don't know Lynda, I think Carlo and Joe will split the anti Hanlon vote. Your mother could be right. Actually if Hanlon makes it through to the general election, whomever comes in as the other candidate will most likely be the next mayor. I also know, I will never vote for Hanlon, again.

Your mom may be correct Lynda. Most of the seniors in the city do not keep up with things like message boards and blogs. I think I have learned a lot here that I would not have otherwise. I wish someone would start a newspaper in this city that told the truth and let the taxpayers feelings be known.

Sally, I recently attended a town meeting in Maine. Their system of government is quite interesting and the voters have much more involvement with how their town is run. Their town budget is brought before the voters at the town meeting and the voters vote on it, not the Board of Selectmen. The town also wanted to build a municipal building and that had to go before the voters at the meeting and they voted that down. It seems their system gives the people a voice throughout the year, not just at election time. Another interesting thing was that anyone attending the meeting is allowed to speak on the topic at hand, registered voter or not, resident or not.

Yet another great reason to move notrh to Maine. Can you imagine if we had that type of system here? I would love it! The reason why things get by in this city is because very few taxpayers seem to speak up and tell them how they feel. We do not have many opportunities to do so I suppose. I have learned to drive the aldermen and councillors crazy with my emails and phone calls. I make sure they know my stand on things. What else can I do?

Just imagine being able to participate in that manor. The elected officials here in Everett would have a stroke. LOL It certainly takes away the hint of back room deals. Of course, the population in these towns are much smaller than here so it is manageable. But, boy it would be great if there was away for voter participation in our meetings. Imagine what would have taken place if the voters had, had a say in our last budget. It would have never passed.

That was my Moms take on it, that most seniors only read the local paper and believe what they read. Sad. |

I don't know why you say Carlo and hanlon are getting "pretty cozy" but I think you're way off base, Fedup. quote: originally posted from Justme "There's no way Carlo (or anyone else) is going to keep hanlon's people if he wins the election. Carlo got into the race to improve things in the city and that means eliminating the incompetent, overpaid, political hacks hanlon brought onboard. What sense would it make for him to split the vote if everything is going to be status quo?"
I know someone who works at C.H. and Carlo and the Mayor have been seen together quite often. I hope you are right about him not keeping any of the political hacks. Carlo seems like a nice person and I do believe his heart is in the right place, however, stronger men than him have been swayed.

My hope is that no matter who our next mayor is, that they will handle our budget problem efficiently........Thank goodness it will not be Hanlon.

I'm with you on that massdee! Anyone can handle it better than the current administration, but that's not really saying much. I'd like to see some competence for a change.

What I do know about Joe, he has worked within a budget for years on some very big construction sites. He is very fiscally responsible, Has experience working with large budgets, a hard worker and very bright. Is he perfect, nope, but I don't think anyone is.
