Losing respect for trying to have the Attorney General,s office give a legal ruling because the city solicitor will not? I am hoping something can be done with this budget and they should all want to look under every unturned stone. Our taxes are going to sky rocket. |

I'm inclined to side with Ellen on this one. The mayor and his city solicitor have no credibility any more. They've hamstrung the process since the very beginning. Hanlon submitted an illegal budget, lied about the June 30 deadline, and openly disparaged his own hand-picked city auditor when he admitted that the budget was 2.5 million over the tax levy. The man then admits in the local press that he actively looked for loop holes to sink the BOA/CC budget cuts. Why not have the A.G. weigh in on this issue? |

I don't know people but, I don't think that Carlo is a stupid man. He is very young and has a lot of political years ahead of himself I can't see him blowing his future on "deals". I think that he may just be the one to head us in the right direction. |

Not if Thibeault is one of the lead horses. No good can come from any association with this man. |

I was leaning toward Carlo because I'm just not comfortable with Joe and I don't think he's showing us much. But, this thing with Thibeault changes everything. I have no idea what Carlo is thinking, but when you get in bed with the Thibeault's of the world, you're going to catch something bad! |

IF the Coakley did nothing with the Dec IG Letter regarding Fred what makes you think she will do anything with this latter? Just a waste of time and Joe McGonagle should pay back the taxpayers for his display and free air time Monday night which was nothing more than a campaign stunt. It wasn't worth turning the lights on at City HAll that night. |

Coakley was not the AG in December, Tom Rielly was and he was about to leave office. My hope is that we get a legal opinion one way or the other. It is the only way to put a stop to all the speculation. We do not want this to happen again in the future, no matter who the mayor is, the legalities of this issue need to be made clear. If our city solicitor was willing to do the job we are paying him to do and wrote a legal opinion, like he was asked, then we wouldn't be looking to the AG's office for help. |

Let's face it massdee, I seriously doubt our city solicitor is capable of writing a legal opinion. I don't believe I've ever heard him give an opinion or a straight answer to anything! He hems and haws and the most you ever get is "I'll have to get back to you on that". Then, whatever it was seems to die a quiet death and you never hear about it again.
I'm also hoping we get something definitive from the AG. I really hate that so much time and effort was put into finding a way to outmaneuver the CC & BOA. They were doing what needed to be done. We know the intention was to help the taxpayers. If the administration had cooperated, it could have turned out much differently and, in the long run, better for everyone! |

justme, your opinion of our city solicitor is right on and on top of not doing the job he is paid to do, he is rude and arrogant to the city council. Our assistant city solicitor isn't any better, either. |

You need to make sure you loudly and clearly say "ASSISTANT" city solicitor or he gets his panties in a bunch. They are different... those two. |

These are appointed positions arn't they? We need to get them out with Hanlon. Don't let the door hit them in the butt. |

I am sure whoever our next mayor is, except if Hanlon gets back in (God forbid), we will see a new legal department up at city hall. |

Massdee wasn't the Middlesex DA's office copied on the December IGs letter? I can't put my hands on a copy and believe it was. Therefore Coakley was the DA and did nothing about it and even though Reily was AG in Dec the office was in transition to Coakley so she would have known about it either way. Again, Joe used Monady night to promote himself and his campaign. |

Fran, sorry if I misunderstood your post. I thought since you were talking about Joe and the Alderman's meeting, I assumed you were talking about the Attorney Generals Office. |
