I thought the article about the former Dorchester player who now plays for the high school is comical. He is quoted as saying he is glad he made the decision to come to Everett!!! EHS is not a college, but it appears we are recruiting players. I wonder where this child lives.

Very good point, Sally. Was that in the Independent? I'll have to grab that if it's not too late. |

Although I never consider the Independent a bastion of journalistic integrity and if we're talking about the same article (it actually says that the player in question came from Charlestown), we must be recruting them young then; the article states that he moved from Charlestown in the seventh grade and is now a senior. He also has a brother on the team who is a freshmen and maybe a good enough baseball player to crack the varsity squad this spring.
I believe that one of the things that Everett has going for it are the excellent youth football and cheerleader programs. They probably keep a number of young families in the city and attract others, as well. It is only natural that they would stay thru high school. On the other hand, I don't deny that there maybe some kids in our schools that live in other places. But, it's not just a problem endemic to Everett. My brother works with a woman who moved to southern New Hampshire from Malden over a year ago; her son is in the process of finishing up his final year at Northeast Regional Tech. |

The article is in the Independent and it reads that this child is a sophomore this kids has gotten letters from Boston College and Maryland College to play ball already. It does say I love Everett and that it was the best decision he ever made in the article. he went to pop warner nationals 6 times while in dorchester playing ball for the eagles. maybe he was contacted and if so that ain't right but i hope they are living here in everett so that everett doesn't get screwed at the end if discovered he don't live here.

Chill. No one is taking your kids spot on the team illegally. |

Yes, it was the Independent. And a friend of mine mentioned his brother is on the team also and his father was given some athletic position so that his son could play. Supposedly, he lived with an Everett coach for a time. These things are just wrong. It is all about winning no matter what, and it is not fair to the kids who live here who want a chance to play.

I am proud of the accomplishments of the team. I do not think we should have Everett kids who are overlooked because some kid from Charlestown or Dorchester is a better player. If they don't live here they should not be playing. Just like the cheerleaders who do not live here. They take spots from Everett kids.

The kids you are talking about LIVE IN EVERETT they moved here. What is the problem ?When they move here and their family buys a house here where should they go to school ? Stop posting nonsense !If I had a chance to move from Dorchester and buy a house in Everett it would be done in one minute.
One more time--if they live in Everett where should they go to school ? |

Solid - if they live here, they should absolutely go to Everett's schools. No one would dispute that.
BTW, apart from football, does anyone know how the science scores were?

I know that the 2 kids featured in the story in the Independent live here THAT IS A FACT.
If you KNOW someone going to EHS and doesn't live in the city you should report them or post there name on here IF you are positive.
I don't know of ANY players on the EHS football team that don't live here and if you do you should do something about it instead of trying to make the entire program look bad by painting it with a broad brush. |
