As someone who does not post much I would like to add that Mayor Hanlon has spent his entire campaign worrying about the Ragucci administration and in the process never did anything to move the city forward.
If Mayor Hanlon was a good mayor and cared about the city he would never have "told" his people to support anyone. But rather would have asked them to do what they felt was right for themselves and the city.
Leaders are people who unite not divide. Here we see the ultimate in a leader trying to create more division.
Wether it be McGonagle or DeMaria.. let the next mayor be someone who looks beyond the past and moves the city forward.
I am just glad Hanlon is done. He was a not a positive for this city.

No. What hurt the Mayor was the fact he did not run a smear campaign like McGonagle did. He did not bow down to that level. That shows the mayor has character. All McGonagle did was talk smack about the mayor and had no plans for the future of the city. He puts that divided article a picture of a “beautiful lower broadway” ( his vision) and underneath it a dump truck ( supposedly Carlo’s vision) All McGonagle wants is to rehire all the Ragucci hacks that worked so hard for him. He ran his campaign just like Ragucci. The mayor doesn’t tell people what to do. An official endorsement will come. The mayor has many, many friends. What’s McGonagle gonna do now that he cant talk smack about the Mayor? He’s gonna talk smack about Carlo. He already did. I don’t know how he looks at himself in the mirror everyday. McGonagle may feel good today but not in November. |

Congratulations to all the winners last night, everyone worked very hard, may the best people win in November, in my opinion that would be Carlo by far, I am so proud of him for the hard work and classy campaign he conducted, he is honest, a hard worker, and that will pay off in the end, congratulations Carlo !! |

Taylor - what hurt the mayor was his campaign against Ragucci, who wasn't running for mayor. His insistence that he was "cleaning up Ragucci's mess" when it appeared that he was using (tax) dollars to wipe the floor with didn't help. Let's not forget that Mayor Hanlon ran on a hiring freeze and then hired all those new people. Oh - and the budget - when he looked for loopholes instead of budget cuts. Well, he may have won that battle and lost the war. "King of Everett" indeed.
Regarding the "smear campaign" - I guess you could call it karma when one candidate runs ads with "hands in the cookie jar" and "gambling with the future" in 2005, courtesy of Fred's hatchet man, John Dowd....and claims that he's been smeared in 2007 after driving up the budget 24 million bucks in two short years. |

What hurt hanlon was never letting go of the past and not accepting responsibility for what he did. Everything was Ragucci's fault and Ragucci's mess. He refused to move forward and tried to bring back the McCarthy era. I was a big supporter of John McCarthy, but we can't go back. The world changes constantly and if you want to survive, you've got to change with it.
Now it's time to let hanlon go and find out what Carlo and Joe are planning for our city and how they plan to do it. |

I for one will not be voting for Kay Hicks or anyone that runs for two seats at the same time. You can't have your cake and eat it too. |

Is she running for both? We've been having that discussion here. I thought she was, the other half said no just Alderman. I think she's a space shot and wouldn't vote for her if she was the only one on the ballot!
When a relative unknown can top the ticket, it's obvious people are looking for a change. |

I am pretty sure Hicks pulled papers for both offices. I agree, I wouldn't vote for any candidate that is running for more than one city office at the same time.
What do you think of that vote Wayne Matewski pulled? |

Not only was Wayne the highest vote getter (is that a word?) but he got more votes than his two opponents combined! Wayne is a lot of things but I'll give him credit for he is one incredible campaigner. |

It always amazes me on how good he always does. I knew it would come down to him and Gregory but I did think it would be closer. Gregory has her work cut out for her. |

I'll be very surprised if Gregory gets anywhere close to Matewsky. Let's face it, the voters in this city love him! |

Hi all I know I haven't been around much lately but just wanted to say hi. I am glad that Hanlon is out of it, and even moreso happy to see that there is a slight chance Carlo might make it in. Although I'd have to say that no matter who becomes mayor this time around, they are stuck with the same mess we have been dealing with for years now... |
