Are you sure of this Tails? They did announce that Carlo won the ward 5&6 votes but very slim. Where did you get your info? Not that I don't believe you. Actually I hope you are right. |

Well, I'll leave it to people smarter than me to tell us how Carlo won this election. What I can say though is that it is my observation that Carlo's campaign put a great deal of effort in getting out the vote today. There was a flyer on our door first thing this morning, three separate phone calls from campaign workers today and another flyer last thing tonight. It was almost to the point of being annoying but, seeing the result, you can't argue with success. It's too bad that more people didn't participate in the process. Congratulations Carlo. Best of of luck going forward. |

It wasn't just work today and last night......for the past 6 months, Carlo's campaign has been working non stop to produce the results we saw tonight. I sincerely hope that the entire city will rally around our new mayor. Everyone working towards the common goal of bringing our community together and once again restoring the pride we once had in her. |

Joe gave a very gracious speech tonight and he would like to see the city unite. He left his time and went to Carlo's. I do not know what he said there. It was a close race, just a little over 300 votes. I congratulate Carlo. I hope the city will heal and move on. |

The voters of Everett have made their decision.
The Pup, however, is pleased, he remembers the famous quote from Carlo when advocating dog poop at Glendale Park, "Dogs are people too!"
Be careful where you step.
God help Everett...........(I remember saying that when Hanlon was elected)

That was a moving post Massdee. I do not think Everett lost joe Mc Gonagle. I am sure he will continue to be involved in politics in this city. We never got to "know" the Mc Gonagle that you know, because of the negative campaigning that went on in his camp. We are all not perfect and I accept that in everyone. Carlo ran a clean campaign and did not talk negatively about Joe, I think that won him the race.

Very well said, massdee. We all know that you were very close to this campaign, and losing a big election like this is a painful blow. Joe is very lucky to have such a loyal friend.
Congratulations to Carlo on his victory. Let's hope that the divisiveness is finally at an end and that we can all finally move forward and work toward what is best for the city.

Thanks, Citizen. We were friends long before this election and we will be friends long after. Joe is family.
I also agree, congratulations to Carlo, and lets move this city forward in a positive way. |

If this historic election proves anything, it proves that taking campaigns to the gutter from the outset never works, and it completely backfired on the McGonagle/Ragucci forces. Their goal was to knock out Hanlon in September and then just cruise to a November victory, they got cocky and complacent, and rather than just run a campaign on the issues they chose to try to draw Carlo into a bar fight , which has been their style since the late 90's. They made a major miscalculation and now the Ragucci machine has been completely shut down, and i dont think they will be back. Their were many forces working against the DeMaria campaingn form the outset, the members of the Common Council who committed early to Joe rather than just do their job and stay neutral they chose to make no secret that they werent supporting Carlo, you should have seen them parading into the Orsogna tonite, it was quite a site. It makes the victory that much sweeter, and of course we all know who Stat Smith was backing. Hopefully these spineless oppurtunists, and you all know who you are will not be trying to sandbag Carlo before the ink on the Inauguration speech is dry, Im sure i will be taken to task for what i have written here tonite and that is fine, but all you people out here who post your opinions, remember one thing, i am the only one who signs my name to everything i post out here and that will not change. I just want to say in closing CONGRATULATIONS AND GOOD LUCK TO MY FRIEND AND THE NEW MAYOR- ELECT OF THE CITY OF EVERETT CARLO DEMARIA, JR., i hope we can all come together and support Carlo and his team as they embark on A NEW BEGINNING for this city that i have called home for all of my 38 years. GOOD LUCK AND GODSPEED!!! PAUL D. DOBBINS

Sally, I fear Joe is gone from Everett politics forever. I hope I am wrong, but I have known him for a long time, and I don't think he will put himself or his family through this again. This past weekend, what was done to his Mom, was quite enough. Mrs McGonagle is a lovely person and it should have never happened. I do not blame Carlo, but I do believe some of his supporters stooped very low. |

Actually Massdee, I think it was hanlon's people, not Carlo's. All the bad stuff started before the primary and it came from hanlon supporters. They continued the bashing and trashing after the primary saying they were DiMaria supporters but they really were only interested in defeating Joe. It didn't matter to them who they put in office. What mattered was keeping Joe out.
They’re the same people that worked so hard to defeat David 2 years ago and they should all be ashamed of themselves. Unfortunately, they’re too arrogant, and ignorant, to be anything but proud of what they’ve accomplished. They’ve torn this city apart and we can only hope they crawl back under their rocks and don’t resurface in the future.
That said I want to congratulate Carlo. I think he will work very hard for this city and ultimately do a good job.

Massdee by saying that, it just tells me that he really didn't want it. He is young and could try again. I understand what you are saying about putting your family through alot, but, that is part of the game. People are gonna look to Joe as a soar loser not as have had enough of Everett Politics. Just my thought. |

I just want to congratulate Carlo as well, I am sure he will do a great job for the city of Everett. I also want to comment that I thought it was very gracious of Joe to stop in at the Orsogna last night. He congratulated Carlo, he didn't speak publicly, which was fine. Hopefully, the entire city gov. can unite and move this city forward. Best of luck Carlo. |
