I just took a little ride. The roads are a mess but it's not from lack of effort. You can see that the plows are out there, but they're hard pressed to keep up with the accumulation. It's coming down faster than they can move it! If they stay at it, the roads should be in decent shape by the time this is over. |

My area is not great but it’s been worse. I have to say the trucks are out there. I did see something different this morning. The plow truck plowed the street and right behind it was a small plow (not the sidewalk plow) getting right up to the curb. Just an observation that I have never seen before. Now, if the even side parking ban could be enforced a little better my street would be in good shape considering. |

If they enforce the parking ban then the bigger plow trucks will be able to get up the side streets. The small pick-up truck plows just don't cut it. We had a plow on our street about five this morning but nothing since. I understand they need to do the main streets and hospital hill but if they don't get back to these side streets it's going to get ahead of them. |

I just came in from shoveling, the plow is now coming up my street and he is doing a good job. He is getting right into the curb on the non-parking side. This is so far the best plowing on my street in quite some time. I haven't ventured out, so I don't know how the other streets are. |

Best plowing I have seen in quite a while----and when you call City Services they are polite.
So far--so good. |

Actually I was just thinking about the email sent around to everyone who worked at Honey Dew Hall yesterday afternoon around 3pm.(the Hall was open until 730 on Mondays) The email asked all the city employees parked in the lot to go out and move their vehicles such that the lot could be plowed. Three trucks sat there and waited until the lot was empty. That was great, most people drove around for a while, others hung around outside and chatted with each other and others had their obligatory smokes. I guess no thought was given to the fact that these people were getting paid by the taxpayers to waste about an hour's time. Let's see, one hour times fifty employees is only fifty hours of taxpayers money wasted.
The streets look good.
Peter Pet was running the show anyhow....Nice job Pete!

And the parking lot was properly plowed and sanded........... Now anyone can park their car and go into city hall without slipping on ice, breaking a leg or a hip, and suing the city.
Obviously there's nothing this administration can do that you won't find fault with Emile. I don't know why (nor do I care) but you are becoming predictable and tiring.
I understand Carlo acknowledged the good job done by Peter Pet and Mr Zaniboni. |

Well justme, rather than just dismiss Emile, I think the man has a point. He merely criticized a management shortfall - because time really is money. Most businesses would expect their employees to go out, move the car and come back in. Emile did say the streets looked good. He did compliment Peter Pet. Emile is a long time participant here, and I think what he had to say was legit. |

I disagree about that being a legitimate concern....if it was a factory and the whole production line had to shut down as a result of everyone having to come out to move there cars I would be concerned. I'm sure all of those people got back to their desk to find their work still waiting for them.
I was half expecting Emile to complain about the color plow that plowed his/her street so well. |

I personally enjoy reading Emile's most knowledgeable posts. Do I always agree with him.....no, but isn't that one of the points of this message board. This is a place where we can come and express our thoughts and share our knowledge with others. What a boring world this would be if we all had the same thoughts about things. I have learned a lot from Emile over the past couple of years. |

I was happy to see the sidewalks around Glendale Park were shoveled or plowed by this afternoon. Now the kids do not have to walk in traffic to get to school. After the last storm they were never done.

I didn't "dismiss" Emile, Court. I merely pointed out that he's been critical of every move Carlo has made, not made, or is rumored to be considering.
Yes, he complimented Peter Pet and chose not to acknowledge the new city services director. Peter Pet has worked for the city for a long time and this is the first time in several years that the streets have been decently plowed. He may very well be solely responsible for that feat, but who gave him the authority to do it? He certainly wasn't allowed to get involved when Sheehan was in charge.
I thought having the employees move their cars was a rather unique idea. The downside is time was lost at the tax payers expense. The upside is the parking lot is clean and safe for taxpayers when they go to city hall to complain about the time lost...........
By the way, I stopped at city hall last night on my way home from work. The new city services director was in the parking lot, on the phone, giving someone hell about a truck not being where it was supposed to be. It was rather refreshing to see someone actually paying attention to the job he's being paid to do. We haven't seen much of that the last couple of years! |

justme, at the risk of belaboring the point, I think Emile's issue was NOT the moving of the cars...it was the break time attached to it, which was estimated at an hour. A reasonable manager would find that excessive. ILook at it this way; if you were paying a contractor to work in your house by the hour, and it took him an hour to move his car while he was on the clock - I would imagine that you wouldn't be pleased. That's exactly how these issues should be framed. You have to care about the city like it was your own house.
I agree, it is refreshing to have someone CARE about the job he's doing. There were far too many in it just for the check. Unfortunately, we can't legislate "caring," can we?
