Let's not sell the "former truck driver" short. The fact that he drove truck doesn't necessarily mean he's not qualified for the job. Don't forget, our mayor is a former doughnut maker........... |

"Former"?
Did Carlo give up the donut business?
Oh, and with a name like Zaniboni he should be good dealing with any ice problems in Everett.
Don't kid me with qualifications, justme. As a responsible chief executive, you would direct personnel department to advertise a job, compare the candidates, and hire the best qualified. You don't hire your buddies, campaign manager, relatives, etc.
This is the same old political BS that every mayor pulls.

Emile, 2 weeks ago you were calling for Jerry Sheehan to be the first one canned. Now you are saying Carlo should have posted the position, interviewed candidates etc. So....using your logic, the best plan for the city would be to fire Sheehan on day one, then spend 30 days looking for a replacement. Now that sounds like a great idea......can you imagine how the city streets would look tomorrow morning if there was no one in charge?
I'm voting for Emile in 2009 |

Dominic, there is no excuse for placing unqualified people in important positions.
And, if elected I will serve.

you know nothing about the man other than someone named "fatcharlie" describing him an ex truck driver.....how do you know he isn't qualified? Who are you to make that judgement? |

Can you tell us something different?
Until then that is my opinion.
We shall see how he does tomorrow with the snow issues before us.

You do not give anyone a chance. Do you worry about everything before it happens? I would hate to live like that.

fatcharlie, I would like you to refer back to your comment made on 1/13/08. You said that Carlo didn't even evaluate Tony L. and that just after 2 days he let him go. You are very one sided because you failed to mention that just after 1 day with the same "evaluation" afforded Tony, Jerry Sheehan was let go. Was that political too? Why did you fail to mention that one or that of JV,VD, & JK? Is Tony the only one that was let go without a fair evaluation by this administration? I think not. It seems these decisions were based solely on otpeopl'es evaluations which Carlo said he wouldn't rely on. |

For the most part new administrations routinely let department heads go. That is a simple fact of life. It doesn't matter how well you do your job or how long you have been doing it.
The incoming administration wants people loyal to the new mayor and the new mayor needs jobs for his supporters. Most supporters and contibutors are looking for a job for a family member, themselves or a friend.
That is the bottom line for any new administration and these supporters form the administration's political power base. They must be kept happy at all costs.
This is not a bad thing or an insult to anyone let go. It is merely how the political process works in a local setting.
Carlo will not advertise any department head positions simply because he has political obligations to fulfill.
If he does post the jobs, the Pup and I will be shocked!
And so will his supporters!

Are you telling us you think he did the wrong thing letting those three go moe?
As a member of city government for quite a few years, Carlo has had numerous opportunities to interface with many city employees. Perhaps his evaluation of Lattoreli, JV, VD, and JK is based on his experience with them during that time? |

Italianmoe - John Krusevich, who had already retired, wasn't a very good attorney twenty years ago. If you think he's improved at all, look at the debacle over the donated toys. He can see a toy liability but not an illegal budget? Please. Look at the pile up of ATB cases if you want further proof. Janice Vetrano had to have "help" ie someone in to set the budget; if fact, when this person was tossed under the bus during the "audit," she had to be brought back to fix the budget. Why pay twice for the same job? Mr. Sheehan's "career" with the city was well known. As for Victor? Perhaps it was bad luck that he served with JK, because he was certainly channeling him at times. I'd love to see the reasons why Mr. Latorelli was let go, though, beyond the fact that he supported Joe. |

I just want to comment on the acting city solicitor Colleen Meher. She looked professional and poised and it was nice not to hear “I gave you the football, now do what you want with it” I too think that the Mayor wants to bring someone in that does not live in the city as the city solicitor. I don’t think it’s a big deal as long as they are capable and have answers. Attorney Meher and Bill knew exactly what they were talking about and had answers, not the “ I’ll get back to you” and never do. |
