I don't believe that age is a good barometer for measuring the possible future performance of either of these young gentlemen or any elected official, for that matter. For example, in the last election, there were four people elected to the city council who had never held elected office in the city before, to the best of my knowledge. These four appear to of varying age. As of this point in time, none of them seems to have distinguished themselves. In fact, of the four, the one that may be the biggest disappointment so far is the oldest. He ran on a platform that his accounting background would be of great value with the financial issues facing the city. He was there for all of the budget hearings but I don't feel that he made much of an impact on the process.

I also don't understand the statement made by a current councilor that whoever gets appointed to the open council seat couldn't get re-elected next year. If there is someone else in the ward who is interested in the position, why haven't they put their name up for consideration for the seat at this time? Also, don't city council incumbents, no matter how they got their seats, seem to have an advantage in an election? Unless someone really screws up or they get really complacent when have a challenger for their seat, don't these incumbents rarely lose their seats?

I don't know either of these gentlemen, but given his parentage, my first instinct wouuld be that Mr. Ragucci may have an advantage in this vote. However, with my track record in making these types of predictions, the outcome could easily be the exact opposite.

I don’t know these two young men, and I’m sure they are good people just for the fact alone that they are interested and want to work and help their community.

My concern is it seems like my taxes go up, year after year after year. I hope who ever gets onboard with the council will be there to fight for the taxpayers of the city and all the homes people are loosing to foreclosure, a lot are thanks to the increases in taxes.

I am also weary of how tax dollars will get spent and other important issues. How many times have items passed/failed over one vote?

But, given the latest stream of violence in the city, it may be a good thing to have another young person on the city council to show how you can do something with you life.

Tetris, I saw a councilor in my ward and I asked about this and what they said was “If they don’t do good, they just won’t get re-elected” I knew that was a bull statement because the councilor from my ward (6) I feel, is one of the ones that makes jackasses out of themselves. Very nice person however, once the cameras are rolling…..yikes!

Hopefully, they will speak Monday night and I will listen to what they have to say as I’m sure the common council will take their vote seriously. Good luck to both and may they have the cities best interest in mind.

I am glad that the city council's vacation is coming to an end. Do you think Fourth Street will be on the CC agenda or does it have to go to the BOA first?

Good luck to both the young men running for the Ward 4 Council Seat.

Tetris, I couldn't agree with you more about the Alderman from Ward 6. I have been disappointed in his performance, too.

When I was at the planning board meeting, I overhead Alderman DiPerri say that he thought the next stop for the Fourth Street piece was a public hearing before the City Council. If that is true, I haven't seen any legal notices published in any of the papers for it. I guess we'll get a better idea when the Common Council agenda gets published later in the week. I can't believe how much I've missed this stuff. I'm almost looking forward to the headache that I'll probably have on Monday night.

I think Fourth Street should really be a priority on the city council’s agenda. There was an issue with Garden Street, and the owner of Harley Davidson, and of course, Woody’s Tires easement.

Any idea how long a public hearing has to be advertised in the papers? I thought it was three weeks, but I could be wrong.

After such a long layoff, I was expecting an agenda with more meat on it. Oh well; let's sink our teeth into it anyways.

1. Will I get yelled at if I don't include a comment on this item? Pretty, Pretty!

2. For anyone keeping score, the transfer can't be made from the budgetary fund balance (free cash) because it probably hasn't been certified yet. Even though it is a small amount, I'd like to see the stabilization fund replenished from free cash once it has been certified. The Mayor's Reserve Fund could have been considered for this transfer as well. I've said it before, this item needs to be included in the budget as long as the city continues to rent bleachers for the stadium every year.

3. Does anybody get this item? The wording of it is really strange. Chapter 27 of the charter was no help; it essentially says that the mayor must inform the city council of laws that need to be enforced.

4. Let the transfers begin! I get the feeling that there may be a lot of them this year.

7. No expense; CT-H should be pleased.

9. Does anyone know what is the actual issue being discussed is? I know we could speculate.

11. I don't have a problem with the Parking Enforcement Officers enforcing all parking violations as long as they properly trained to do so.

12. And on it goes...

13. Ditto #12

14. Very disappointing that the chief can't be there to speak on this item.

16. May the best person win.

21. They are actually stealing now; but, how do you enforce the law without arresting the people that are doing it?

22. Is this really necessary? In the eyes of some, the parks department is now just doing their job the way it always should have been done. Have all the lots been re-mulched? I go around to quite a few of them with my nephew and I'm not sure that they all have been done.

23. Anybody know what the actual problem is?

24. 1) I thought that painting all of the city's crosswalks was going to be a priority this year?

A general comment. I thought President Bruno wasn't allowing anyone to be called up in front of the council without it being voted on at the prior meeting? I always thought that was rather harsh and only served to slow down the process even more. Is this a one-time thing, only being allowed at this meeting due to the long layoff? That works for this meeting but what about the next one?

Well they might want to talk to people at Best Buy about Mr. Ragucci. Seems he recently lost his job after many years, very abruptly.

No, he transferred from Saugus to Everett. And when he left Everett he attempted to get a job in Saugus, and they would not consider hiring him. Go ask someone who works there if he works there, because he does not.

Well, I was at Best Buy in Everett a couple of weeks ago asking for him and was told he went to the Saugus store.

All that aside -- what does it matter to his quest to be a member of the Common Council?

And this is why we can't get decent people to run for office. Do you have any evidence other than third person heresay, Sally? Otherwise, it's probably best to step back from making unfounded and potentially libelous statements.
